showMDtheway
Is it possible to record this way after converting down to 1/8 inch? I've seen various manuals that say not o use anything but unpowered 1/8 inch mics, but I'd love to record some really high quality stuff. Does it affect the power supply? KJ_Palmer
I think condenser mics aren't truly 'powered', ie. don't supply a line level voltage, anyway certainly electret condenser mics are fine to use with the built in pre-amps. You could always try plugging your mic into your line input first, and if that doesn't give good volumes/quality, try it in the mic input (with a low rec level setting at first and gradually increase). showMDtheway
Thanks for your reply. Yeah, I actually was concerned about the MD shorting out or something because the pre-amp (separate from the mic, not built in) provides power to the mic, and so maybe it sends some power into the MD. Know what I mean? The mic I'm using is a professional qualtiy cardoid condenser mic, like they use in recording studios.
A440
You can record with mic-->preamp-->Line-In. Whether your particular mic and preamp will sound any good with the MD is a matter of experiment. I got a nice recording of a quiet show through pre-amped mini-mics and Line-In, and an awful one of a loud show. You're not likely to short out anything--all you'll get is distortion on the recording.
