DJ Shock
Hi fellows, I'm thinking to buy a Sony MZ-N510CK or a MZ-N610 to record my DJ sets using the line input and then transfer it to my PC, but I have some questions: I've heard that is not possible to transfer tracks from a Net MD to a PC via USB 2.0, it's true? If it is, can I record the audio using headphone output into my sound card input? I guess the quality will be terrible... These two models are good, any opinions? Thanks! KJ_Palmer
Hi. Yes, the current NetMD units won't allow USB transfers from the units to PC. You can use the headphones out on these models and 'transfer' the tracks by recording them on the PC in real-time. Apparently the quality can be quite good this way (I haven't tried it myself). However before going any further, there is a big thing coming very soon in the MD world, in the shape of Hi-MD, which will allow USB uploading. It would obviously be worth your while waiting a month or so for this I should think.
Thee-O
If it is, can I record the audio using headphone output into my sound card input? I guess the quality will be terrible.Hi there, I also DJ and have used minidiscs to record my sets. The only thing you have to worry about is clipping. MD's as with all digital formats are pretty unforgiving with signal overload. When DJing, source material (CD's and Vinyl) can have different outputs so record low and then boost the Wav. file once you have it on your hard drive. If you do go this route I would suggest getting a good Monster cable (mini-jack to RCA) to use when hooking up the MD to your soundcard. But as suggested earlier...wait for Hi-MD. It should solve a lot of problems. Open Ears = Open Minds Thee-O www.thee-o.com www.biohazardproductions.com
DJ Shock
Is there any portable MD unit that had an output (digital or analog)? I guess Sharp had one some years ago, the 722 or 702 I think...

There have been quite a few units with a dedicated line out, however..

The specs sounds cool, digital in, line out, USB up/download and the better one, digital pitch!
