Marisa
I just purchased a Sony MZ-NF810CK and am having trouble recording from CD to MD. I bought a Digital Gold Series Universal Optical Cable to connect the CD Player (via the headphone jack) to the MD line in jack. When I play the CD, then hit record on the MD player, I get the message "No Signal" on the MD player. The connections are not loose in any way, and the volumes are turned up on both players, yet I cannot get the signal to come through. Am I doing something wrong? Any suggestions would be appreciated. I have had this player for a few days and haven't been able to use its recording capabilities yet. Thanks in advance.
Christopher
Welcome. An optical cable is not compatible with the headphone out on your CD player. You would need to use an optical [aka digital] out to use your optical cable. An analog cable would work in this situation. Do you not have a computer to use for recording? You are employing a NetMD model..
Marisa
Yeah you would think it would be easier to just use the computer. Unfortunately my comp has 1st edition Windows 98 so it's not compatible with the software. So until I get my new computer I guess I'm outta luck. Thanks for telling me about the cable. I guess the guys in Radio Shack were as clueless as myself. $25 later, I'm no further along. I guess I'll have to purchase an analog cable... this will work in the headphone line out jack? Also, do you have any idea how much they run for generally? Please excuse my ignorance. Thanks again.
Christopher
Yes, an analog cord will work in the headphone out jack. Make sure you plug the other end into the mic in on your unit. You'll need a male-to-male stereo cable, and it usually costs around $5.
squaredcircle
I usually record CDs from CD headphone out to Line In on my MZ-N707, and set it to Sync Recording to get (most of the) track marks.
