Real One & Sonic Stage transfer file error, what gives??

Hello all!!

I have a peculiar problem. I've been transferring files over to my MD (NE-410) using RealOne with no problem. But just yesterday I've tried to transfer files (which I've transferred before with no problems) to a blank disc and I get the following error:

"One or more files could not be transferred. Please make sure that there is sufficient space on your portable device and that the files type(s) you are transferring is supported"

Then RealOne disconnects me from my MD. I thought it was RealONe problem so I went back to SonicStage. And I got the same error!! I thought it was a specific song, but it started happening randomly on any one of them. All are mp3 format and I've put them on MD before with no issues. So what gives??

Where is the real problem? Should I be fixing the mp3 files?? But why when they worked before? I thought that the created .omg files might be corrupting the transfer, so I clear them every time before new transfer. To no avail. Anyone run into this problem?? What is the solution?? Thanks in advance.

Thanks for replying.

Went through the motions as described in the link you provided. Everything went without a glitch. Yet, when I connected my MD and tried to transfer just one song I got "Failed to write data to the device/media".

And I formatted the disc insided b4 writing to it. Am I up the creek with no paddle now?? By looking through the forums and reading through some of the posts on the same topic, people had no solutions to this.

Could this be an MD problem?? I just had it for 2 weeks. huh.gif

This is the most frustrating experience ever.... :wacky:

I found the file and tried to run it, but when it tries to connect to the internet to authenticate, it comes back with an error saying "Cannont connect to the Internet". Say what???? I'm connected 24/7!!!!!

I have DSL connection and my LAN settings are set to automatic with nothing else chosen. Why is it not connecting?? Man, if Sony only put this much effort into making things work as they put into making things not work, a lot of happy people would be out there...

Back to my problem though... what should I change if anything to get connected with that file??

Ok.

I have various bit rates. Most of my songs are 128, some are 192 and some 96. All of them are recorded at 44khz or better.

The thing is, this is not consistent. I could have a problem recording a 128 bit file and record 96 bit fine and vice versa. So I can't really pinpoint the problem.

One thing I tried was to re-save the files using Audacity as mp3 again and then re-recording the same song again. To my surprise that worked for the first song. Yet, when I tried it with the next song, it didn't work anymore.

When I compared the two files, the original and re-saved version of the same, the only difference was the CRCs were set to "no" on the re-saved file. Not sure what that means. But either way, this is way too much work to just transfer files to MD. There's got to be a fix somewhere for this.

If you want anymore detail, just ask. Thanks for looking into this.

Unfortunatelly not. All I have is a laptop, which is a Vaio K13. Do you think the problem has to do with installation of the software for recording the ATRACs? But if it the installation was good, could it still be?? Why isn't the Ojbsir.exe file working, that still bugs me....

oh the age old problem with rubbish sonicstage.

i've a net MDN10. got sonicstage 1.53 with it. that was rubbish. crashed windows with the blue screen of death all the time. then i moved to openMG jukebox. that wasn't too bad at least windows stayed stable.

the problem was it refused to convert random files. all my mp3s are at 224kbits that i've made myself with CDDEX. i have a few downloaded at various bit rates. the 'failed to convert/record to device' message appeared randomly with any bit rate.

some tracks always worked, the others never worked once they decided which way they were going they never changed.

so i got realone then. that works fine but doesn't do SP mode recording which is annoying.

i've now got sonicstage 2.0 which i must say is a lot nicer to use, less ambitious than the original but does what its meant to, sort of. Yep i've still got the problem of randomly not converting/recording files after importing.

but at least it doesn't crash randomly when i try and record SP mode (for the car) just gives those error messages. so i guess thats better than spacking windows out.

Anyway the point of this message is a small but annoying work around i've found. i dunno if it'll be useful to you lot or not. here it is:

i've got a load of big mp3s 140mb each. openMG jukebox refused to import those, i presume because they were too big. so i searched t'internet for an mp3 splitter which i duely found. so i split these up into 5-10mb sections and then recorded to MD. like before several refused to be converted others were fine.

so i had an idea of shaving the smallest amount off the beginning of the mp3s that don't work. typically about 3-10 frames of the mp3 which is probably about 1/10th of a second.

i then reimport them to openMG and hey presto, they record fine in all modes.

i then get emailed by sony to upgrade to sonic stage 2.0. so i do and the above work around still works. Or should i say sonys software still doesn't work.

so i've got 6500 mp3 tracks. its gonna take me a very long time to sort out the 10% of tracks that won't work. But i'm now almost happy with my MD player, the N10 is a beautiful little machine. pity the software is so shite.

anyway one quick question: say an LP2 file is 5mb that means the equivalent SP file will be about 8mb. so WHY does it take the first about 10secs to record across but the SP file will take about 60 seconds?

odd

anyway hope this helps someone

Update from me...

That sounds like a lot of work jellyman. This problem (see above) seems to occur a lot as I can read through the forums. But some people have got it to work.

I've tried reinstalling SS2.0. Deleted every possible file and registry key that had anything to do with SS or OMG. Reinstalled again, and again same problem. Tried even converting first to WAV with SS and that works flawlessly, but then it comes to transfer time (which I do seperately, after conversion), it chokes. This time though I'm getting a different error:

"These tracks cannot be transferred.

The tracks cannot be transferred to the device/media.

The remaining transfer count is zero."

Then it names the file it choked on. When I read on this "count" error thing in SS help, it makes a referenced to "restricted content". Could it be that in SS2.0 sony people got smarter to find out if the file is actually "illegal"??? Otherwise, why do so many people have problems with songs that they've had for years now? Hmm....

All in all, I'm still up the creek w/ no paddle. Anybody out there figuring this thing out??... Anyone...??.... Hello...??... S.O.S. ...

regards to All

i think my work around works because it completely changes the property of the file so it has to deal with it as if its never seen it before. try it! works for me.

the errors i get (depends on the software, openMG, SS1.5, SS2) go something like this:

'failed to write to device/media'

'cannot find copywright information'

'sonic stage only supports 16bit 44kHz tracks, please use supported media'

my work around corrects all these, and certainly takes less time than uninstalling and reinstalling sonys software (which i've done many times before). once you've got them to work they won't go wrong again too.

i reckon its sonys software not being able to read the rights information so thinks everything is illegal and therefore refuses to work.

so minimi, can you get any files to transfer?

  • 3 weeks later...

Hey there everybody,

I send some of you guys some private messages for some tips on the following problem:

"These tracks cannot be transferred.

The tracks cannot be transferred to the device/media.

The remaining transfer count is zero."

to my great annoyance and relief the problem dissapeared after i used some new batteries..... so because of low battery (which was weird because the battery was shown full in the display but then afterwards came the low battery report while checking in) it gave a lot of shitty crap reports

so the problem is solved, put in a new battery and it works just fine...

regards,

Don
