Arthur
is there such thing as a seperate recorder for minidiscs if you have an player-only type unit?
Christopher
Of course! You can use a recorder to play back tracks as well. Most people just buy recorders with good battery life instead of buying a player and a recorder. I like employing both, as using one unit exclusively will wear down the unit's lifespan, in a sense.. I think in your scenario Arthur, you'd probably be best with a recorder. Maybe one with a good digital amp?
Arthur
haha i think i might as well

Christopher
What's your maximum budget, and where will you be recording most of your music from [computer, cd's, etc]?
Arthur
comp, cd's.. and my max is probably around 100.. why? are these things expensive?
Arthur
oh and what kind of connection do they use (i.e. usb 2.0) ?
Christopher
I would either wait till Hi-MD comes out and the eventual price drop, or go on eBay and looked for a N707 or some other comprable NetMD device.. So, what're you going to do? Get a player and a recorder, or just a recorder? You were going to pay $200 for that E620, no? Your budget is fluctuating..:rasp:

Christopher
Easy there, man. Try and collect your thoughts for one post at a time. I think you should just get a recorder for now, and that's it. All NetMD units use USB 1.1, btw. Arthur
ewwww 1.1? they should work on that if you CAN put over 230 songs on one disc :wacky:
Arthur
which is a good recorder under 400 canadian then?
Christopher
Damn, if we're talking that much then why don't just get a NH900 in a month or so? http://www.minidisc-canada.com/shopdisplay...rtable+MiniDisc You'd definitely like Hi-MD.
Arthur
have you ever seen a sony remote? im wondering what its like on that hi md? like is it really tiny?
Arthur
aw man the battery only lasts 23 hours? thats not enough for me
Christopher
So, what're you going to do Arthur? Maybe you should just stick to a NetMD recorder for now. I definitely advise you not to get a player-only unit before you get a recorder. Kinda defeats the point of it all, ya know?

KJ_Palmer
How much have you got to spend, and what features do you need? Do you want to record from a PC, or CD player, or microphone, or all 3? Realistically, the range is from about $100 to $300 (US) or so for new portable recorders. Of course the more you spend the better the quality and features. Arthur
wellavent actually seen what these things looked like. but im willing to spend 100 only..... tight bidget and plus thats only american.
KJ_Palmer
Mmm, you're not going to get much for your $100, unless you try your luck on Ebay, or in the sales etc.. Minidisco are selling the NE410 for $80 - see here. That's about all I can suggest, it's not the sturdiest unit, but it'll do if you look after it. Actually, for $20 more the N510CK is a much better unit, with a line/optical connection, AC adaptor, and sturdier construction... Unfortunately these things are expensive at the higher end...
