Hi,

This is probably been asked a lot of times, so except my apologies. I have a few questions. I used to have a Sony minidisc recorder, which I used for fieldrecordings, but it fell and was smashed beyond

repair. I have been looking for a new one, could you please give me

some advice which types (and brands?) are good for fieldrecordings (mostly ambient sound recordings like trains, sea, rain, machines etc.) ? It has to have a good microphone input. I heard that the 'new' minidisc

recorders with USB can not transfer recorded data to the computer, only from the computer to the minidisc recorder itself. Is this true? I know that sound can be transfered digitaly via the opitical cable to computer, but USB would be better. Is there a recorder that can transfer sound from the recorder to the PC via USB? Thanks in advance.

Best wishes, David.

Welcome, MB.

Get a Hi-MD unit; they can record on 1 gigabyte discs and upload digitally through USB. They're priced around the same as higher-end NetMD units..

Perhaps you should look into the NH800 or the NH900? Seems like a good recommendation for this scenario..

p.s. Moving this to the relevant forum.
