Hello,

I am new to this group and MD as well. Currently I am looking for recording device (MD, HiMD) to take to remote places to record local live events and ambient sounds. There are so many devices on the market, that I need your advice. My specific needs:

* CD (or near) quality

* built-in mic

* transfer to PC

* long battery life

* robust / dustproof construction

* price max 300 usd

* other related to field recording, that I've missed

Please help. Is it worth considering HiMD?

Cheers,

Thank you kurisu,

I've just looked through NH900 operation manual. I was thinking of built-in mic and it seems to be none on this model. Or maybe it's just wrong idea if it comes to high quality of recording?

None of the Hi-MD units at present have a built in mic, though you can of course add an external mic to the NH900. You can get the "standard" MD unit the Sony MZ-B10, however this has far fewer of the features you're looking for.

You're right about the built-in mics - they're convenient, but not suitable for high quality recording. I'd go with the NH900...

KJ, you and your MZ-B models, :grin:.

Yes, if you were to persue good quality recordings an external mic would be your best bet. Take a look over here for some inspiration:

..and also check out our Live Recording forum. There's a ton of discussion about ideal mics and such there. Keep us updated on your progress!

Ha-ha, you may mock, Chris :laugh:, but if you've never had the luxury of built in mic and speakers, you'll never know how handy it can be not to have to fiddle around with external wires, batteries and so so on. Just press a button and record - a true replacement for the cassette.

Can't wait for the Hi-MD version - MZ-BH1 anyone?... :rasp: :ninja:
