aeriyn
I recently purchased a Sony MZ-N10 brand-new and have been having some confusing issues with the Lithium-Ion battery. It seemed to exhaust very quickly (according to the battery gauge on the display). I've never let it run totally dead, but I recharge when it hits one bar on the four-bar battery status display. It never seemed to take longer than fifteen minutes to charge. However, last night I read in the manual that even after the charging lamp goes off, the unit is not fully charged. So I left it on the stand overnight while I slept, and the battery life seems to be much stronger now. Does the MZ-N10 come only partially charged from the factory? Or do I have a wonky Li-Ion cell? I'm aware that environmental conditions (such as the hot summer heat) can impact battery life, but I wasn't aware that it could take 24 hours of LP4 playback and cut them down to around 5 or 6 hours... Christopher
The battery definitely takes longer than 15 minutes to charge. I would suggest that you exercise this method for charging: Use battery till it's completely drained. Charge for 3.5 hours. Repeat. Make sure you only charge when the battery is near death or dead period!
aeriyn
I was under the impression that you were not supposed to let Li-Ion batteries completely discharge... I will, of course, follow your directives. ^.^
skyther
The battery definitely takes longer than 15 minutes to charge.Yes it does. Definately. Leave it for an hour or two, even after the charge light goes off. Use battery till it's completely drained. Charge for 3.5 hours. Repeat. Make sure you only charge when the battery is near death or dead period! NO. Your Li-ion will have it's life shortened.
Christopher
Your damn right. I was way off, and here's a good site for further reference. http://www.batteryuniversity.com/partone-23.htm
aeriyn
Well, the battery life is much longer now after being used for a while and then recharged, used and recharged (but I did not let the battery die even once). I still don't think it's up to full, but the N10's manual says that some times the Li-Ion battery has shorter life when first opened, and to use it and charge it, use it and charge it until the proper life is achieved. Thanks a bunch. It works great now, although I haven't actually timed the battery life.
icem4n
my n10 always show 15 minutes indicator (except fully recharge)..... after 15 min's it goes off .. in the manual it said the indicator should show 3.5 hours then after 1 hour it will off , but in my case it show only 15 minutes and go off after 15 min
RichM
This is same behaviour my N10 exhibited when running off the internal battery only. However when I used the external AA battery case aswell, that is attaching the case from the outset using the internal battery and an AA until the AA died, when placed on charge the charge indicator would indicate 55 minutes. Another thing is that the battery life indicator is misleading (in reference to the first post in this thread). Each of the bars in the battery indicator are not equal on the N10, bars 1 (i.e. battery: full) and 4 (i.e. battery: supposedly nearly empty) are worth more than bars 2 and 3. So if you're on bar 4 you may still get a good few hours of playback still.
