Wolfie!
Sony says that the Hi-MD has a "mic input" and that's not clear enough. Is it a Mono or Stereo input? I bought a recording walkman years ago which had a small stereo mic which came with it and indeed it can record in stereo... but I also bought a camcorder, which although could do stereo with it's inbuilt mic [and get all the motor noise too] annoyingly the plug-in mic could only do mono. What I'd lke to do is record my mothers stories about the family... I'm likely to forget and well... years from now my memory will fail me about specifics. Would be nice to have a good, digital stereo recording to pass down rather than a bunch of cassettes. Wolfie!
KJ_Palmer
All MD units that have ever been made and have a mic-in jack have stereo microphone inputs, and the same will be true for the Hi-MD units. Of course if the microphone is a mono microphone, the recordings will only be on mono, and that's not the recorder's fault. Make sure your microphone is a stereo mic - these have 3 seperate sections on the jack - mono mics have only 2.
