manic
Sony has created the shittiest player ever!! I'm sorry, but this is ridiculous. - I just picked up my NHF800, a warranty trade-in from an R700 (the generation before Netmd). The 800 has the crappiest plastic styling! I can't even believe that everything from the tacky blue plastic down to the coarse jog dial to the cheap CHEAP! grey plastic battery compartment "lid" in the back is so ugly! I want my old player back And the remote ISN'T backlit. grrrrr
Ppk3000
Seeing how the functionality of all the Hi-MD players are about the same in general, Sony had to make SOME feature differences else they would have nothing to advertise about for their higher end models  Sounds like your experience with the NHF800 sucks though... then again it shouldn't be TOO bad as long as it works. http://www.minidisc.org/part_Sony_MZ-NHF800.html : Stick-type, backlit remote with built-in AM/FM/TV/Weatherband digital tuner. It's not backlit?? Hmmm... I guess the webmaster better fix the Hi-MD equipment browser section then.
Bananatree
IIRC the r700 was plastic too no? Is the h800 just poorly constructed compared to the r700? Or are you just un-impressed with the way Sony put the unit together?
Christopher
The R700 had a plastic back and a metal front if I remember correctly.
Mat
I guess metal prices are on the rise and sony with its un-popular MD equipment had to find somewhere to cut...
manic
The R700 felt and looked like 400 (CAD). The new 800 is a chunkmiester. Thicker, less modular, and oddly vacant styling, i.e. no real lines that break up or organize the style. Does not feel like 400 dollars. manic
I try to make myself believe it's 80's retro, and that that's a good thing.
AMPlitudeHD
lool, i guess sony's been cutting down, there's no arguing that, but the un-backlit remote is definitely a setback
