dangermouse Posted August 1, 2004 Report Share Posted August 1, 2004 Hi, this is a bit random and probably not related to anything on this board but I just have to know, cos it's driving me mad. I have the Sony MZ- N510 MD Walkman, which can put stuff into groups for ease of finding music. When I put the shuffle mode on to randomise the order of music, sometimes it randomises the whole disc rather then just the tracks in each particular album. Does anyone know how you can turn this on or off, as sometimes I would rather it did the whole disc and sometimes just the groups. I have managed it on a few occassions but can't seem to get it working again. Any help would be much appeciated. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
KevinP Posted August 1, 2004 Report Share Posted August 1, 2004 As far as I know, if you select shuffle from play mode whilst the group function is on, the 'randomisation' is on the group currently selected. If group mode is off, then all tracks are 'randomly' played. However the shuffle mode is pretty poor on Sonys, and wouldn't surprise me if strange results occur... My sharp MT877 seem to physically spin the disc like a russian roulette when in random mode (you can hear it spin the disc). I was wondering if sony units do that or just pick a random song from software? RichM Posted August 4, 2004 Report Share Posted August 4, 2004 In reference to the first post: My N10, which pre-dates the N510 has two shuffle modes (and judging by the N510 manual the N510 is similar) - shuffle for the whole disk, and shuffle within the groups. The first mode is self explanatory, the second, group shuffle is odd. If repeat isn't on it shuffles within the group, when it has played all the tracks it moves on to the next group and shuffles that. I would expect it to stop at that group than rather continue, which would make it more consistant with repeat group shuffle, and ready salted disc shuffle. Humming the theme to DangerMouse... If repeat is on however it shuffles within the group and when it has played the last track, it starts again on shuffling that group. I might be nice to have scriptable play modes.
