hutcheezsad2
THIS IS NOT A THREAD INVOKING PIRACY What i basically want to know is if i was to try and transfer a downloaded mp3 onto a "Hi-MD" minidisc will it transfer properly or have Sony built somehting into the software to stop this being possible? Christopher
It will have to be converted to ATRAC3/plus first via Sonicstage, which is chock full of DRM. If you wish to hold the *.mp3 as data only [and unreadable by the unit], you can do so without conversion.
hutcheezsad2
Sorry, DRM? Basically what i want to know is is it worth buying a Hi-Md unit if i wont be able to put anything on one of the discs becasue a message will pop up saying "This file is copyrighted you may not covert it to an ATRAC format" or something to that effect...? aeriyn
Sorry, DRM?DRM stands for Digital Rights Management. That means tracks encoded with SonicStage can only be played/transferred to MD on the computer they were encoded with. Basically what i want to know is is it worth buying a Hi-Md unit if i wont be able to put anything on one of the discs becasue a message will pop up saying "This file is copyrighted you may not covert it to an ATRAC format" or something to that effect...?This has never been the case for me. I have run into ONE file that gave me a copyright violation error and would not transcode to ATRAC3, but I solved that problem by deleting it and downloading a different (and incidentally, higher bitrate) MP3 file. Qwakrz
MP3's dont have any form of DRM on them. The format was not designed to have any and to keep the MP3 extension there should not be any. WMA however can only be converted as long as it has not had DRM applied to it. This means any paid for downloaded WMA's cant be copied. If all you have are MP3's you should be ok.
