Sony has recently discovered that some DSC-W170 Cyber-shot digital still cameras, made in 2008, may exhibit peeling of the metal plating on the bezel surrounding the lens (the silver circular area), resulting in splinters. This is caused by thin metal plating combined with the bezel’s grooved surface. In its continuing effort to ensure customer satisfaction, Sony will offer free service to replace the front cabinet, including the bezel, on units that fall within the affected serial number range. This issue affects only DSC-W170 model Cyber-shot digital still cameras within certain serial number ranges, which can be found on the sticker on the bottom of the camera:
