Athlon 64 / nForce 3 chipset compatibility issue with SS2.0?

Does anyone know if such issues exist? I've successfully installed Sonic Stage 2.0 on 2 Windows XP machines-- one with an Athlon XP 2100+ processor and one a laptop with a Pentium M 1.6ghz processor. Runs fine on both.

I try to install this software on my brother's new Athlon 64 3000+ / nForce 3 150 machine and the launcher won't even start-- it crashes before you even see the launcher. I was able to manually install the MD drivers and simple burner since this was all my brother needs for his N707, and it now gives him an MD Simple burner error when he boots up his computer. Perhaps the rest of the SS2.0 software needs to be installed?

In any case, it was puzzling that every version of Sonic Stage I tried to install wouldn' even load up the launcher without crashing. THis includes 2.1 downloaded from connect, an atrac3cd version of Sonic Stage 2, the Hi-MD version of Sonic Stage 2, etc.

Part II:

Ok I installed Sonic Stage and everything else that was on the CD. Still get a fatal error when SB tries to load up.

Per the error message suggestion, I uninstall simple burner. Reboot. Install Simple Burner again. Reboot. Same problem.

Any ideas why I'm getting a fatal error with SB 2.0?

I'm thinking perhaps it is a 64-bit issue with SB.  I had a similar problem with UT2004 not running after installation, and fixed the problem by installing a patch which included a 64-bit fix.

Guess I'll see if any SB patches exist...

Don't count on it for a good while. Anyway don't you need a 64-bit operating system to use the Athlon64's 64 bit extensions.

You don't need all of the SonicStage suite installed to run Simpleburner just the "OpenMG Secure Module". However it sounds like it's all screwed up in the Windows registry, possibly down to the number of failed installations (assumption). The way to get the best results is to reinstall everything from scratch on that computer including Windows, although this incredibly drastic, and only recommended if you have plenty of time and all the installation files/CDs. The next best way is uninstall all of the components for SonicStage, including SimpleBurner, the secure module, the "add-ons" and the patches. There is a stickied post somewhere (in the NetMD forum in fact) that describes how to do this.

Just had a thought, are you refering to the "Data Execution Prevention" feature of the Athlon64, if you have Windows XP SP2 it (DEP) knobbles programs that try to run areas of memory that shouldn't be executable. I've only got software DEP (courtesy of SP2) on my machine (only a Athlon 2500+ here, nothing to see) because my processor pre-dates this feature, so I couldn't tell you myself.

I run SS2.1 and SB on my AMD 64 3000 system & have no problems. I have XP SP2 installed with DEP set to the highest level without problems.

If it is a new system, it may be a ram problem as I know AMD CPU's are very touchy about ram. It may be worth running a ram tester on your system once to see if any errors pop up (even a single bit error will cause problems).

Appart from that have you updated the motherboard drivers etc also may be worth looking to see if a BIOS update has been reported to fix your problems.

Which version of XP are you using with the 64 bit CPU. If its XP64 you will NOT get minidisc to work as the drivers are only available for XP32 (standard version of XP) and you cant use XP32 bit drivers on the XP64 OS.

Personally I wouldn't bother with the looping for 24h, if it is a memory problem that is causing all your trouble it should show itself very quickly, just let it do 1 or 2 loops

If you were looking to check your system for stability after building it then yes I would do 24h but not in this case.

Rumz, I really don't think it's a memory problem, if it was you'd have more problems than with SonicStage. I thinks it's something broken in your SonicStage suite installation, Windows installation, or something installed that is interfering with the SonicStage suite.

If you have Windows installed for a while and if you regularly install and uninstall different programs, it is my experience that you can encounter some pretty odd problems caused by registry remnants. So a reformat and a reinstall may be necessary in the end.
