Spectral
Hi. I'm Spectral[or DJ Spectral, I create techno music, lol] and I'm considering getting a Hi-MD player. So far I've had two regular net md players[the 410 in which the buttons screwed me over so I sold it and the 510CK Type S that came with the car kit that I have now]. The 510 is doing pretty well since December in which I got it for Christmas and it has never messed up on me yet. But I really want a Hi-MD player of course, for the 1 GB Disc[the 80 Min Discs are not enough] My budget is around $200-250, and I was going to get the 600HD[$200] or the 800-700[forgot which one, the one with the am/fm tuner for $250] My problem is that either one is fine, but with the 600 I'll have to deal with the jog dial[can someone PLEASE tell me how that thing works because it looks complicated and fragile], and the other one isn't in stores yet.[dosen't have a checking account yet so I can't order it online] Should I wait or get the 600? I'm thinking about getting the 600 next week. And I will keep my 510 by the way. Any helpful input would be appreciated. Thanks.
dex Otaku
I have a 700. The only real difference between the 700 and the 800 is the tuner. The jog shuttle is quite useful - despite what some have said about the shuttle being 'stiff' on the 700/800 I find it appropriately stiff as when recording it's used for manual record levels. With the new menu system and 5-way button with shuttle, I find things rather easy to navigate on the 700. I would consider it a great step up from most of the previous systems I've seen on models where there basically isn't a button for most functions right on the unit. I would not consider a 600, myself, as it has no analogue inputs on it [i.e. no recording from a mic or line-in, though the European version has an optical in]. Spectral
Well I really don't care for the optical and analog input anyway. I store all of my music digitally. I really don't care for remotes, they always seem to get in my way. And I just want something with more storage. The 600 looks fine with me.(I heard that some say its a bit bulky and feels like plastic).
krismorgan
I would not consider a 600, myself, as it has no analogue inputs on it [i.e. no recording from a mic or line-in, though the European version has an optical in].Just a quick note to say i have the european 600 model & it has a single input which you can use to record external signals via optical lead & analogue lead (not just optical only) It also has the facility to use a remote (which i never use anyway)& ac power in (which i will need to use for 34 hour long recording sessions) Both the remote control & ac adapter from my now dead mz-r700 work fine with my european model MZ-NH600S. I am a dj as well & previously used my mz-r700 to record my 6000+ record collection on to 200 + discs (& rising-lol) in lp4 mode. It was the storage capacity of the discs plus the ease of use of the md/hi-md format in general that swung me this way-i love md's! The jog dial isnt a problem either-i use my fingernails- Kris M
vova
I got the 600D for $150, so it should be well within budget. You turn the jog dial to move through menussong lists, there is a little button in the middle that you press for ENTER. It also works as a kind of a joystick, you push it up/down for volume and left/right for skip. It takes a lot longer than the old MD to start playing, annoyingly so. It may be just a wee bit bigger than the old player
