marc s
can anyone tell me if a sony minidisc gives off an electro magnetic field when you are using it? if it does - then how high would this field be - and could it be dangerous - especially to the ears through the earpiece? - and could an emf affect your brain? thanks
jadeclaw
I have found NO radiofrequency emissions from my unit, an NH700. And the low frequency fields from the motors are so small, it won't affect anything in its proximity. So finally the earbuds: a small electromagnetic field from the voicecoil is normal but since that one is tiny too and only the audio frequency that you hear, it won't affect your health, as the range of that is a few millimeters. So what is left? Sore ears from earbuds, that don't fit well into your ears, replacing them solves that problem too. And remember, don't turn up the volume too far, as extreme loudness can damage your hearing, but that is true for every sound source... dex Otaku
The EMR around your earbuds would probably be less than a millionth if not a billionth the strength of field coming from an average cellular phone, if that gives any indication. Guest NRen2k5
Minidisc is absolutely not dangerous in this regard. EMR is only dangerous at certain wavelengths which are waaay outside the operating norm of MD players. The only time I ever notice any EMI on other devices from my MD recorder is when it's actually recording, and this is much less than the fans on my brother's PC case!
