jgore
Hi First of all lemme introduce myself by saying this is my first post. My name is Javier, I live in Argentina, Buenos Aires and recentry bought the N10. Needless to say i'm a sony and minidisc geek. Now, here's the problem i'm having: When I transfer some "non-standar" mp3s, say VBR ones, or 192k, 256k and 320k mp3s, some of them sound perfect but some others suffer sound cutoffs just like when you have an earphone that its cord is about to break and it sounds like a false contact. Hope you know what i'm trying to say. It's like the sound is getting cutted off for some seconds, switching crazy between left and right, then comming to normal and so on and so forth. I'm having a hard time trying to understand what causes this problem. Since it's been little time I have this unit, I don't certainly have any detailed technical information about minor issues this unit can have with "special" mp3s, nor anyone I know about that has encountered this very same problem in order to share the reason with me either. So, finishing, I would like to ask you guys if you have experienced this problem before, and if you did, if you can give me some advices on how to pick and transfer "good" mp3s to minimize the risk of getting sound-cutted problem songs. Thanks in advance. Javier
jadeclaw
Welcome on board... SonicStage is the problem here. Its MP3-decoder is obviously dated and doesn't understand every trick current high quality encoders use. Solution: Decode the MP3 to uncompressed wave first and import the resulting Wave-files into SonicStage. After converting in SonicStage, you can delete the Wave-files. And for the future, if you rip CDs to MP3, use constant bit rate and for decent quality, 256kBit or 320kBit should be used.
