tim_s
I have a Sony MZ NH600 andI want to record from a microphone. My old MZR37 Minidisc recorded fine with a Sony ECM-DS70P stereo mic, but the NH600 barely works at all. If I wind the record volume up to maximum then it will record, but very faintly. The NH600 works fine for recording with all other sources. Is it because the NH600 needs some form of preamp for the microphones? If so, can someone suggest what I should get (hopefully something portable). Thanks Tim
KJ_Palmer
Yes that's right, the NH600 doesn't have a built in mic pre-amp. So you'll have to get an external one for recording all but the loudest music/noises. Sound Professionals, amongst others, have some good quality portable pre-amps (I believe), but they're not exactly cheap. Non-portable ones can be much cheaper, but then they're not portable... Jammin72
A battery box that allows you to go line in is key here. For a less expensive solution (but would require a few adaptors) you can use an impedance matching transfomer between your mic and the recorder to give you enough input.
