The T77 and T55 (NOT the T33) feature yet another update of the digital amp. Kenwood claims that the "NEW clear digital amp" has an improved power supply, with better S/N ratio and less distortion. Specifically, there's better clarity for both the low frequencies and vocals.

Otherwise, the players continue on with the features they had last year.

The T77's battery life drops mysteriously, but the T55 gets between 3-10 hours more than the S55.

Last year's S33/55/77 marked Kenwood's return to producing within Japan, this was taken up by a bunch of business magazines because Kenwood said it's cheaper than when they manufactured in Malaysia. Quality control is easier, shipment and cash flow matters are easier for them too.

These units are successors to the last generation Kenwood S77, S55 and S33 models and are quite attractive!

Major changes from the MJ57:

-- MD "Re.Master" which predicts the higher frequencies lost in encoding. (you see this kind of feature in many MP3 players, Pana's had a version for their PCDPs for a while). This can be turned on/off.

-- larger speaker cabinets

-- maximum battery life increased to 222 hours (from 176)

-- A-B repeat and random repeat playback (that's right, Pana hasn't had random repeat until now)

-- headphone jack is now 2.5mm (3/32") instead of the regular 1/8"

-- amp output is 3.5+3.5mW @ 16ohm

No, no Hi-MD - did anyone seriously think they'll have it ready so quickly?

Planned launch date is October 1.
