koukouroukou
I've been using MDs for some time now..my first unit was the MZ-R90 which was quite nice for that time...later when NETMDs came out i moved on to the MZ-N710 which I consider one of the best mds ever made....it had everything i wanted and it came at a nice price.... When i got the N710 i was expecting nothing less than a great md,and that was true. Now I'm looking for something with the same specs as the N710 but in a Hi-MD... That is having a mic-in, remote with a screen, the small battery (but having the ability to use normal AA batteries as well), etc.... Now forgive me if a have it wrong but why are all hi-mds (except for the nh1 and nh900) made of cheap plastic? Of course i would like to save me some money and not go for the nh1 right away simply because if money was not an issue i wouldn't be asking for help...i'd just go for the top model... And of course i know i have to compromise on the features of the new md since i think sony did a terrible job in the features of the hi-md units.. To put it simple....is there any hi-md out there that is respectable for its features other than the two top ones or do you all agree that sony sacrificed a lot in quality for all models but the nh1 and nh900? KJ_Palmer
The NH900 is actually probably the closest in specs (for a HiMD) to your N710, being only half aluminium too, and with gumstick/AA capability, etc. The digital amp is about the only other high end feature that sets the NH900 apart from the NH700. Although beautiful (IMO), the NH900 takes a bit of a step down from the NetMD '9xx' series in build quality at least. Hopefully the next generation of Hi-MD should see a step up in quality and performance, from the 'high-end' machines.
koukouroukou
I also noticed that that the n710 equivalent for hi-md is nh900 and nothing close to the nh700...i thought that there was a continuation in the series through the generations of mds... koukouroukou
Are there any news on any other sony hi-md models comming out? should i wait for them?
Christopher
There will probably be no more models until next year from Sony. I would expect the other manufacturers to jump into the fold later this year or early next.
koukouroukou
Well then i'll settle for the nh900...In the Comparison chart from sony i see that the only difference is the date/time stamp... But in each unit's specs i see "High definition" digital amp for the nh1 and digital amp for the nh900... Is this different in each unit? Does it make a difference? What is this digital amp? Christopher
The NH900 has a HD digital amp; it's purely an error in our product pages.
koukouroukou
First of kurisu I want to thank you for spending time replying to my posts... After having read this http://forums.minidisc.org/viewtopic.php?t=4223 I am a bit confused.... Things mentioned in that thread conclude to the fact that the hd digital amp is crap? So what's the point in it? One last thing...is there a difference in the output level in the various regional models of the nh900?the hd amp plays any role in that? Also do you know of any e-shop inside the EU i can get the nh900 from?
Christopher
Some people like it, some don't. It's all in the eye of the beholder, I suppose..but I will note the fanfare revolving around the HD digital amp is not parallel to the digital amp found within Sharp units, it seems. What region are you referring to, btw? There's different models of the NH900 [with some minor and major differences between each]; world, US, Euro, and Japanese. All are available from e-tailers with differing prices.
koukouroukou
I'm refering to the Euro one. But depending on the differences i may go for the US one...
