Huntley
I am afraid I already know the answer to this, here it goes anyway. I just got the MZ-NH900 and I am trying to record some of my Vinyl. I have a turntable with a digital out but it is Coaxial, not Optical. I bought a Monster coax digital audio cable and a 1/8" mini plug adapter to lead it in the line in on the recorder. I am not getting any levels at all, I am guessing that this is just not a possible transfer, can someone confirm this for me? If it is not possible than I am not sure how to make the transfer as that is my only out source on the turntable. The stereo cables lead right into the turntable so I don't think I could tap into them for Analog. Any ideas.... Thanks
Huntley
I think I found my own solution, they make converters, digital coax into optical and vice versa. If this is the best way please let me know. Thanks again.
aeriyn
What you need is a thingus called a "format converter" which takes S/PDIF Coax and converts it into TOSlink optical. Check around the 'net... you might find one for a good price.
jadeclaw
Hmm, Turntable with digital out... Interesting... Anyway, try this one: http://store.yahoo.com/minidisco-store/co2.html It solves your problem. Converts optical to coax and to optical. Direction is selectable and you find the suitable optical cables and miniplug adaptors there as well. And don't forget to mention Minidisc.org... Huntley
Thanks for the useful info. I see that there are different options for buying a converter, is there a known difference in quality with say the M-Audio brand and the Radioshack brand? The Radioshcak brand is cheaper and usually cheaper means a sacrifice in quality, not sure with something like this though. Any thoughts on this? jadeclaw
Well, the radioshack converter will do the job as well. The difference: plastic versus metal case...
Huntley
Well, I went for the Radioshack model and I am now getting a signal. The problem now is that the signal sounds like crap to be blunt, very static sounding. I am using Monster Digital Coax and the I know the digital out works well on the table. I think I might give the CO2 a try unless there is something I have forgotten or am doing wrong. Any other thoughts?
Huntley
An FYI for anyone trying to attempt this type of transfer. It matters on the brand of converter, I landed the M-Audio CO2 converter and it is aces compared to the Radioshack model. Thanks for the link Jadeclaw, Minidisco had the best price I could find. jadeclaw
Sounds like that the coax input on the RS box got overloaded. Hmm, cheap was too cheap... Good to hear, that it works now...
