scrosland
Hello, I have just purchased a MZ-NH700 and am trying to get Simple Burner to work on my Windows ME system. After some initial installation problems I have got Simple Burner and Sonic Stage installed and can download CDs to the Minidisc player without problems. However, after the initial CD download, all others have failed the lookup in CDDB. These are not unusual CDs, and I know that they are in CDDB. I have checked the CDDB settings and they look ok to me (no proxy, etc). I regularly use CDDB via Music Collector (from www.collectorz.com/ ) so I know how CDDB works, and I know that the CDDB libraries can connect to the server from my machine over my ISP connection. So the problem really does seem to be localised to Simple Burner. Does anyone have any ideas what could be wrong? Thanks, Simon
dex Otaku
You wouldn't have a software firewall that's blocking outgoing calls from Simple Burner, would you? Does the CDDB support in SonicStage work? Mine [sS 2.1] occasionally has troubles that seem both random and intermittent. Sometimes closing and re-opening the software fixes it, and once it required rebooting to get it to work again. I could find no reason for the problems, either. scrosland
You wouldn't have a software firewall that's blocking outgoing calls from Simple Burner, would you?No - and I can see the network activity as Simple Burner makes the outgoing connection to CDDB. However, it doesn't seem to find a match. Does the CDDB support in SonicStage work? Mine [sS 2.1] occasionally has troubles that seem both random and intermittent. I have tried the usual Windows support things - reinstall, install updates, reboot, etc. What i find really odd is that other CDDB client software does work on this same system. Darkeyed Tormentor
When I installed Simple Burner, it asked me to register in CDDB service. Have you done it?
dex Otaku
Also .. I don't recall if either one gives you the option to change what CDDB host to use. Perhaps what's happening is that it's timing out because the other end is simply too busy.
scrosland
Well for whatever reason it has started working again... odd, but this seems to be the way with a lot of software running on Windows. Yes, I am registered with CDDB - the libraries only need you to be registered once and then they all use the same registration details from the registry. And I think that Gracenote only have the one CDDB server address, so I doubt it is that. Though it could have been busy when I was trying I suppose.
