Hi-MD mic-in upload errors

I have MZ-NHF800 HI-MD recorder and I've only used it for mic-in recordings (via an external mic) in Hi-Sp mode.

Quite frequently, when I upload the tracks to my PC, Sonic Stage 2.0 terminates the transfer and I get this error message: "Internal error has occurred." When I listen to the tracks that weren't transferred, I find that they all contain multiple, random "wholes" in the recording (pieces of absolute silence that last anywhere from a couple of seconds to a couple of minutes each). This error always happens when I record the disk to its full capacity. The error occurs most of the time when I have 40 mins or less of recording time left. If there is more than 40 mins left, I have no problems at all. I've used 4 different HI-MD disks and all of them do the same thing.

Has anyone here experienced similar problem? I am just trying to see if this is an inherent shortcoming of the Hi-MD media or if I got a malfunctioning recorder. I would really appreciate if somebody could record their HiMD-disk to its full capacity from a mic and see what happens.

Thanks for any help!

Suggestions:

* Update to SS2.1.

* Listen to the whole track before uploading to make sure it's actually all there.

SS2.1 at least has a bug in it that will randomly and intermittently trash tracks during upload. This is why I recommend using the Total Recorder method [playback direct from the disc via USB, recording with TR] -BEFORE- uploading tracks. I suspect that SS2.0 would have the same bug in it.

It sounds like you've found a variation of it, at least.

I've completely filled HiMD formatted MD80s [with HiSP audio as well as PCM] and uploaded without any difficulties at all.

I seriously doubt it's your recorder or your discs. I would point the finger at SS.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've done all the things you recommended but to no avail. As a last resort, I decided to buy some new disks and try them. To my delight, I've had no problems with them!

Cheers,

This is pretty old, looks like it took you a while to reply. We're up to Sonicstage 3.1 now, so please upgrade to that.

I've upgraded to sonicstage 3.0 prior to purchasing the new disks, but the upgrade didn't solve the problem. I got the new disks just a couple of weeks ago. After I confirmed that they worked flawlessly, I wanted to share my solution here (hence, the late reply).

BTW, I checked - the new disks work fine with Sonic Stage 2.0 also, but the old ones don't. So, it looks pretty certain that that was the disk issue - some early batch(es) were defective, apparently.
