  1. So this is a seperate hack aside from the regular convert-to-R900 hack? If so, does it really work, do you have the test results? If so, can you write out an official and accurate step by step procedure? I won't be confident altering my unit yet again until you are confident of this discovery. Thanks.
  2. Eek, that's cheap. I got mine summer '01 for a hundred bucks more. That's why I'm waiting for some of these NetMD models to cheapen. Etronics has the N1 for around $270. And the N505 (upgraded R500 w/ NetMD) for $115, just 35 bucks more than your R500. But they also have the R700 still selling for $200, 40 bucks more than the N707, which is very ridiculous.
  3. Well, they do have laser eye surgery for vision now. Who knows, they might have something for hearing too in the future.
  4. I just discovered the pause button's function in titling songs today- it only took me about 2 years! I used to have to scroll through the whole damn thing to reach 1 letter, and it was a pain going from capitals to lower case. That brings me to another point. When scrolling through the japansese characters, there is a lot of slowdown after holding down the scroll key for more than a couple of seconds. The characters will end up scrolling very slowly until it reaches the next set, then repeat; but not for the english alphabet. Today, my unit shut off by itself while I was scrolling like that. It was weird. It was an R500 btw.
  5. how did you make a remote through the battery compartment? how hard was it? i also have a r500.
  6. I guess that's where it differs between a R500 & a R700. Since on my R500, it only shows up to 6 letters, I only see Timer0 and not the 2nd digit. And no, the BEEP feature is useless for the R500. On or Off, there is no difference, so maybe that's why the Melodies have no sound either. And SOUND is exactly as I described. There are only 2 steps: SOUND1 and SOUND2, and they do exactly the same thing as BASS1 and BASS2. It is not more advanced, maybe because there is no way to try it with a remote, but if there is another way to access the 8-steps on a R500, I'd like to hear it. So, that makes half of the extra features on the hack useless for the R500. And I bought it for $180 a year ago.
  7. Another thing: this might have already been mentioned but with the R500, this hack removes the BASS submenu and replaces it with a SOUND submenu, which is basically the exact same thing but instead of having BASS1 and BASS2, it's called SOUND1 & SOUND2. Dark, what sound is MTimer supposed to make? And do higher up units beep whenever you press a button to change settings, like digital walkman's do? My R500 makes absolutely no sounds at all on its own, except the music on the disc.
