Great, things are getting solid! Our eyes are on you, our Joan off Arc .

Haven't tried it Anthony, I'm still on 256kbs ATRAC atm. However, I doubt if it's gonna be a large hit on the battery; with HD-layers, it is quite simple, they have an electronic memory that has to be filled from the HD and accessing the HD takes a lot of power and the higher the bitrate, the more often this reading had to happen. With flashplayers it is the screen, the processor the amp and perhaps reading the memory that take the power; only the last point gives any argument why power usage would be higher; use of codec, volume and screen seem more relevant factors to me. But perhaps I'm wrong, I'm no electrotechnical engineer.

Ridiculous they're not for pre-sale here; The Uk is not closer to Japan or wherever then the Netherlands are; oh well, bought myself a 24"inch 1900x1200 monitor; UT III looks great! I agree that must be it, Ascariss; I was hoping for a less complicated DAP focussing on musicplaying only (without expensive tricks I do not need, like NC and wifi), but this sounds more probable. Oh well, if sound quality really is as good as expected and better then the current Sony's I'll buy it anyway; otherwise I might go for the 16GB 639; I do not really need more memory at the 320 kbs max.

I'll keep my fingers crossed. Still wonder about that xxx0 vs xxx1 thing, maybe the wifi?
-
Good! Congratulations, hope you'll get it quickly and I also hope you were the first one... Edit: tried it myself, no shipping outside the UK...oh well, I can wait, I'm a man!

Hi Juli, That is indeed battery capacity; it is good that the capacity is 20% higher then your other players; hopefully batterylife will be very good; though I do not know how puch power the old/new amp and the touchscreen needs. Does anyone knows what is the difference between the xxx0 and the xxx1? Noise cancelling, bluetooth? Anyway, I need neither. A little bit worrying is the 'from €380,-' indicating that the 32 GB will be even more expensive.

I can imagine you being disappointed. I think you got a point about the cradle; My 2 year old A808 is still doing fine (though battery-capacity has lessened somewhat, but nothing too bad considering I use the thing 2 hours a day). I used to have a phone that had the same problem; the cradle seemed to charge and discharge at the same time, ageing the battery very fast. Happely, my new phone, also a HTC, does not have this flaw, so it seems to me it's a design-thing. But about the new players, who knows, one can only hope, but I'm not too keen on using such a cradle now, especially since the defect only occurs after some months.

Well, I got the money; right now I've some silver ls-cables in review for about the same price, and I just decided they were not my cup of tea. Using my feminine logic-side, that means I can now have one for free!

Wow, I'm good! Only €20=5% wrong. I'm gonna get this I think, if it gets Juli's thumb up.

Yesterday I googled on 'Sony VAIO review' and read the first 5 I found (can't retrieve which ones exactly, other PC). They were not very positive; the quickstart-app seemed to be very bad, some complained about the touchpad-replacing-thingy and the general opinion seems to be that this is a low-performance netbook with a great formfactor but far too expensive. The love-at-first-sight all reviewers had seemingly had cooled down considerably. D*rn, I wanted to like this, but I'm not rich enough to convince myself to spent €1000+ on a machine whose beauty is only skindeep.

Mummy 3 on DVD, sat it out with some friends and a lot of beer, then threw it in the garbage bin where it belongs. Completely ruined by extremely childish dialogues and a story copied from part 1, but far worse. Later it gets completely chaotic in an avalanche of mediocre spectacle. Skip this one unless you're completely braindead. ...hm, nice, balanced review. Perhaps I have a talent for this?
-
The price will probably be Sony-ish, which means rather high; a Ipod touch 32 Gb does around €300,- here, but this one adds NC with matching NC-phones; my bet is on an initial prices of €400,-, so around 350 BP?

Hi Juli, thanks. I saw something like this too, but wondered how to read it; indeed, DSEE is not new, I'll probably won't be using NC because I love my Sleeks and they isolate enough, so what remains is that S-master digital amplifier. And I wondered, is this really something new and better and just old wine in new bags? Edit; 37 days, that fast? You are determined to be the first in the UK who has it, don't you? Hahaha, I'll cross my fingers for you.

A question about sound quality; do you people expect it to sound better then the current 82x/63x DAP's? I know there is a lot of rumours about the digital ampstage inside the X1000, but is that really different from current Sony's?
-
No no, it's misunderstanding. The batterylife of the X is still unknown, this 12 hrs is for that dAP that is just earpieces.
-
I still have SS for my A808, but it keeps on arguing that all content should be validated again online. When that 32 GB X-thing is out, it'll probably be over for my SS install too. BTW, the NW-HD1 was a fantastic player in its time, stylefull, classy, beautifully made magnesium cover, nice sound, great batterylife....I never understood why people bought ipods when they could have had this little gem. But recent Sony players sound more detailed and more dynamic, the NW-HD1 had, to my ears, a slightly rolled off treble.

SI: It?s Not A Netbook - Sony?s New Vaio P Series Lifestyle PC
dura replied to Christopher's question in Vaio
I absolutely want this; despite the fact I already got a netbook (ASUS 900) and this is 3x as expensive. Love the formfactor, but perhaps prices will fall after a fw months of patience? -
I probably should feel guilty now, but I don't.
-
Thanks for the radio-thing, Juli. re I will; thrice the price of the ASSUS for a better formfactor...?
-
So here you all are, nice to see you again, thanks for the tip Juli. I want that X too, badly. (and a VAIO P, those look great, I love netbooks, but ok, other forum) Sorry about that 12 hours confusion, that was me on head-fi misreading the specs. But there are a few things bothering me about the X: 1) does it have radio; occasionally fun/useful I think,. 2) does it have lossless compressed; I mean my old A808 with its 8GB is only a little bit too small for me using 256kbs (ATRAC 3+); ~80 albums. 16 GB on the max (320 kbs I think) would be enough, 32 GB would be useful if it had some lossless compressed, like FLAC or so. For PCM 32 would not be enough. so for me 32 GB is a little in between, 16 GB lossy compressed or 64 lossless uncompressed, pity Sony will probably never support something like FLAC. 3) the NC; useless, I'll surely use my beloved SA6's; hate to pay for useless features 4) how long is the battery-life really? 5) will it still have that lovely Sony soundsignature, hopefully better then ever? Questions and doubts, but no doubt that this is gonna be another great player.
