  1. Skiphunt, I suggest you re-read the Guitarfx's review as well as the first 30 posts in this thread. It looked to me to be pretty fair and balanced until you came in (Post #34 IIR) and started flaming him. I think what you continue to miss here is that the bottleneck with the H2 lies with the mic preamps. Understandably Zoom (as well as any other manufacturer) has to make some trade-offs when designing a piece of equipment to fall within a certain price range. I'm sure they are attempting to undercut the offerings of Edirol and M-Audio, and it looks like they've done that being able to offer a competitive product at half the price. I purchased an Edirol R-09 about a year ago to record practices & jams. It was not perfect by any means, but it did meet my needs... That was until I misplaced it. Now I am considering whether the H2 will suffice as a replacement. If I should find my lost R-09 sometime in the future, all the better. Reading Guitarfx's review pretty much confirmed what I already suspected based on prior reviews I have read about the H4 as well as my own experience with other Zoom products. That doesn't necessarily mean that I've been dissuaded against buying an H2. Most likely, I will still purchase one as it looks like it will still meet my requirements at half the price of another R-09. That being said I can't find fault in anything that Guitarfx said either in his review or within the first two pages of this thread... Sorry if you don't see it that way. - Frank.
  2. Well spoken Bob. I joined this forum today as a result of reading this thread even though I don't own an MD device. I'm here not because I wish to argue with MD'philes, rather I hope to learn from those who have more experience and have access to a wider range of equipment than I've been exposed to. I welcome reviews and comparisons between the new stuff coming out vs. equipment that has been become the reference point against what others are judged. I have no dog in this fight... I'm here to gain from the experiences of others. P.S. I own several Hyundais... A 2003 Elantra, a 2001 Santa Fe, a 2007 Santa Fe. You are right, they've come a long way from the Excel. - Frank.
  3. Ok, it sounds like the H2 preamps aren't studio grade and can't compare to those in the RH1. What about the Edirol R-09? How does that unit (and it's preamps) compare?
