It seems that you clicked and changed something in system. As VAIO user i suggest to remove Norton antivirus, it may help to improve performance and also turn of System Protection (win vista/7) or System Restore on windows.

Install better antivirus such as Nod32 or AVG 2011

Yes, nod32 is pretty outstanding. It's the only AV I use and recommend, at least as a paid solution.
