    MDS JE480

I just searched for any help for my just bought MDS-JE480, it was described as "dead not working" and stumbled upon this page, so I would like to add this information for future reference: I had these symptoms on a MDS-JE480 - no standby light, one or two clicks from the power supply relay when I plugged it in. Checked all voltage regulator transistors, they all showed all the correct voltages. So I swapped the transport with a known good one from a working deck, the unit powers up and works just fine. Put the transport from the (apparently not) dead deck into the good deck: again, the good deck shows no standby lamp and is dead. Ok, I thought I will change the infamous loading belt: again no change, still dead. (By the way, it is between 1-1.2 mm square profile, 17mm diameter or 30mm folded length) So something's amiss on the board under the transport: Someone had re-inserted the flat cable in the wrong place, between the circuit board and the plug itself! Put the flat cable back in the plug's slot, problem solved.
  2. 1: 32, used them from 1995-2001 as a (rock) DJ Absolutey best then, remember no MP3 and practicly no CD-Recorders. 2: No - I still have them, but have moved on to LP2 and Hi-Md 3: Daily, i have 2 stereo systems with decks, and a Japanese car radio with LP2 , which i also use (via AUX)with a Hi-MD Portable player 4: I record new albums or Radio podcasts to Minidisc to listen with my car radio or portable player 5:Yes, definatley 6: Yes, for 5-6 years, then my daughter caught on with Minidisc, so now i check out the Fleamarkets in my region for MD-items or E-bay etc to enlage my collection 7, Like Cassete tapes, vinyl albums, reel to reel tape, all which i collect and use regulary, this is a life-long fascination with Hi-Fi, and the quest for "good sounding" recordings and the often tedious repair work needed to keep all this stuff working. Minidisc is a good -sounding resiliant transportable format.
