    Audiobooks on X-Series

IUnfortunately I've discovered a slight issue with my "solution". As the player thinks each track of your audiobook is a podcast, it doesn't move automatically onto the next track, and I can't find a setting anywhere to change that. Not so much a problem if you have your audiobook split into a few large 30min+ segments, but it is an issue if, like a few of my audiobooks, they are split into lots of small 2 minute segments so you have to kkep pressing next every few minutes. I suppose I'll have to go back to having them in my music collection I just can't think why Sony didn't include this feature? And seeing as any music placed in the PODCASTS folder is then kept seperate from the Music collection, it would seem that it would be relatively easy to add an AUDIOBOOKS folder to do a similar job (with a few changes - like automatically moving onto next track). This could be quite possible to add in a firmware update. I have actually sent an email to Sony support with my feedback on the player and a few questions regarding why some features on previous Walkmans were ommitted and why Sony hasn't moved forward by introducing new features, such as better audiobooks management. I also asked whether they had any intention of introducing new features in future firmware updates. This was my reply: Thank you for your recent e-mail. I am pleased to learn that you are the owner of a Sony NWZ-X1060. In response to your e-mail, I would like to thank you for taking the time to contact us with your feedback concerning Sony WALKMAN products. Such feedback is always appreciated as it is viewed as an integral part of our development as a company. I would like to inform you that I have forwarded your feedback to the relevant department for their information. Whilst they will not look to contact you directly in regards to this, I can confirm that your view on this will be recognised. Whilst I am unable to guarantee that a firmware update will be released for this product, I do recommend referring to the below web address for further details regarding firmware announcements for this product: http://support.sony-europe.com/dna/wm/nwvp/nwvp.aspx?site=odw_en_GB&m=NWZ-X1060 I hope that you will continue to enjoy the use of your Sony NWZ-X1060 and thank you for your enquiry. Yours sincerely Customer Information Centre Bog standard email giving nothing away. Oh well, I guess it's back to stumbling onto random bits of audiobooks when using Shuffle.
  2. Hi. I'm like you, in that I also like using iTunes on my PC to organize my music. If you have the option in iTunes to "Keep your music folder organized" then your 'iTunes Music' folder should be nicely, well, organized All I do then is drag and drop the folders from iTunes Music to the MUSIC folder on the walkman, so they replicate each other. I sometimes have problems with Album Art, for which I use MP3Tag. But all in all this solution suits me - when I use to use Content Transfer it would organize the music in a funny way so that if I ever wanted to edit all the songs in one album, I'd have to manually find them one by one depending on the artist (I have lots of soundtracks, so lots of my albums have various artists). As iTunes organizes it's music by album artist, I find this way soo much easier. I dunno if this has helped you - hope it has.

    Audiobooks on X-Series

Hi. If you're like me and want audiobooks on your new X-Series, but want it kept seperate from the rest of your music collection (Why didn't Sony include this feature?), then you may find this useful. I stumbled upon this by accident, but it would appear that any music you place in the PODCASTS folder is subsequently kept seperate from the rest of your music, which means no more stumbling upon random sections of audiobooks when using shuffle! Unfortunately the player can only see music files one folder level deep, so you have to have lots of seperate folders for each audiobook (I was hoping I could have first an 'Audiobooks' folder, and then one folder for each audiobook, but hey ho). I thought I'd put this up in case it helps anyone - but maybe I'm the only one who had this problem... oh well
  4. I use Mp3tag to add album art to my music. It's a simple program which is really easy to use to organize your music. It's called embedding the album art in to the ID3 Tag of the songs. As long as the art is 500 x 500 or below (I think, although I have a feeling I have some over that) and the size is below 100kb, then you can embed it in your songs and it will display succesfully on your X-Series. Just embed the art and use windows explorer to drag-and-drop your music onto the Walkman. You can download Mp3tag here: http://www.mp3tag.de/en/
  5. Hi - was just wandering whether you'd received it yet, and if so, does it work well with the X-Series, as I'm also interested in a dock for mine and this one is meant to be very good. If you have got it and its working well, where did you order yours from (I'm assuming you're from the UK)? Thanks
  6. Oh - sorry, I was only really replying to the bit about Content Transfer not working with iTunes in general, as I have that problem with transfering albums. I haven't actually gotten round to creating playlists yet (I'm too used to using on the fly playlists on my HD3!), so I can't help you there.. I did google "create playlists using windows explorer" and stumbled upon this: http://forums.sandisk.com/sansa/board/mess...p;thread.id=930 but I don't know if it will be of any help. Sorry I can't help more - I was just letting you know I've got this problem too.
  7. Hi. After upgrading from my old Sony NW-HD3 to my nice new X1060, I've been very impressed thus far. But one of the few things that's annoying me about the X-Series is the shuffle function. On my old HD3, you could shuffle through albums, songs or artists, depending on what level you were at when pressing play - for instance, if you were browsing through artists, and you pressed play on Led Zeppelin, say, it would go through all their tracks in the normal linear way, album by album, but when it finished their songs, it would then jump to a random artist, and so on. That function doesn't seem to be in the X-Series... Is that right, or am I just missing something? I've tried a few things, like pressing and holding an artist then pressing play, but no joy. Is this just plain missing from the X-Series or is it hidden?
  8. Yep - same problem here. It's definitely an incompatibility between iTunes 8.2, as the problem only appeared after the update. I was annoyed, but I just turned to using windows explorer drag and drop from my iTunes library. I haven't contacted Sony, but I hope they are aware of this problem and are working on a fix. For now I suggest just using drag and drop - takes a bit longer but I prefer that to using WMP
  9. Well that's annoying about the movies, but audiobooks too? Well that really is a bummer... Are you 100% sure on that? Because I was hoping to purchase some of the Harry Potter audiobooks from iTunes and put them on my X1060. That is very annoying if true. It is a real shame that Sony / Rival companies, have let Apple corner the market so much.
  10. Hi. Simple question really: Are movies purchased on iTunes compatible with the X-Series Walkman? Will I be able to transfer them over and watch them on my NWZ-X1060? I don't want to go and buy a movie only to find it's not compatible, so if anyone knows the answer, that would be great. Cheers.
  11. Hey everybody - I'm a longtime reader of SI and SI Forums, but first time poster. I've been following the news of the X-Series with sooo much anticipation, as I've been waiting for a 32GB Sony Walkman ever since my beloved NW-HD3 starting to play up after years of great service. Anyway, I was shocked when I saw John Lewis had them in stock already, so I popped in on Saturday and...... YAY!! I've finally got my hands on the X1060 First Impressions: Well, I haven't had a great amount of time to play with my new toy, but I have transfered over 2000 songs (about 13GB) to it, with loads more to go. First thing's first: The SQ. Well, the thing I'm most impressed with in the X-series is the Sound Quality - it is immense! Way better than my old HD3 and sooo much better than my brother's iPod. I'm no audiophile, but even I can notice the SQ difference on the X-Series; bits I hadn't noticed in songs before now come to life. The supplied headphones are also very good. The OLED screen is so nice, so crisp and detailed. I haven't transfered any videos to it yet, but the supplied videos and pictures show you you on their own how nice the screen is. I have the brightness set to the default 3, out of a range of 1-6. It's bright enough to be able to see what you're doing outside, although I haven't tested it on a bright day. In a dimly lit room it looks amazing though. However, the screen is a bit of a fingerprint magnet, and so I'm now waiting for a good screen protector to come out. The downside to being an early adopter is that there aren't any accessories on the market yet. I'd quite like to get a case as well as a screen protector. Not that it feels fragile - it actually feels quite solid, and I don't think it "feels" as fragile as an iPod - but I like to protect my gadgets. It is a nice size aswell. It's nice to hold in your hand and fits snugly in your pocket. When it is in your pocket, that's when the buttons come in so handy. I also liked that you can choose whether the hold button just disables the touch screen, or whether you want it to disable the buttons as well. I'm only just getting used to it, and will post more views as I continue to use it. But, like someone else said, it doesn't take long to get used to using it like some other MP3 players. The only gripe I have so far isn't with the player itself: The Content Transfer Tool I use to transfer my music from iTunes keeps on crashing when transferring certain albums. Also, there are 3 albums that for some reason the album art doesn't transfer over, even though they have the art on iTunes. I also agree that on-the-fly playlists are a big miss - even the old NW-HD3 had bookmarks, so it's disapointing that they've omitted that from the X-Series. I wonder if that's something they could change with a firmware update? I haven't yet used YouTube or the Web Browser, so can't comment on that.
