http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/4833010.stm I like the idea of this law. There are some things you can only get on itunes which currently means I cannot buy them and put them on my Sony HD5. Fingers crossed this goes worldwide!!

Hi, I'm hoping someone might have the answer to the above question? The details - I have my music stored on an external hard drive (Seagate 100GB) I went to import a few compilation albums to SS-3.4 so i went to 'music source' then 'import folder' and navigated to the correct albums, I checked the box beside the albums I wanted importing and it did that ok. The problem is that SS hasn't reconised them as compilations, so it has each artist as a different album, not at all good! I know that if I import the compilation straight from the cd I need to check the "compilation" box so that the album behaves in the way it should. Is there a way of getting SS to import compilation albums correctly, if they are not coming from the cd itself? Thanks

Hi Stuge, I will upgrade to SS 3.4 (I am only home at w/e so it'll have to wait til then). So when I have got SS 3.4, how should I go about getting my music on the computer - SS or other? Thanks Jenni

Hello, I hope to spend some time this w/e putting my music on to my new external hard drive. I plan to initialise my HD5 and delete all songs from my pc before starting. So I start with a completely ‘clean’ system. I have SS 3.3 loaded and it seems to work ok. Is it best for me to use SS to get my music onto the ext’HD, or would it be better to use Windows Media Player / Quicktime or something else? If I don’t use SS to upload my music, presumably I’d then need another operation to get it into my SS library? I want to end-up with 2 music ‘stores’ one of MP3 and one the same music as in the MP3 but in Atrac format. Last time I transferred my songs to the HD5 it converted from MP3 to Atrac at the same time and this made it take ages. Is there a way to take my MP3 collection and convert it to Atrac before transferring it to the player? And now thers's SS 3.4, should I update to that? Thanks for your help. Jenni.

That is brilliant! I'm going to order a couple of those, a much better solution than cheap white headphones! Thanks. And thanks Stuge for your help too

Thanks bangraman again I appreciate your comments I have had some time to look now and have found the kind of thing I'm looking for. Now the trouble is that they are all very cheap and I'm worried that they will sound terrible! Also most of them are white and I was hoping to avoid looking like I had an ipod! Please have a look and let me know your thoughts, thanks. Macally ($20) DLO Zip Kord Earbuds headphones with retractable cable. Thanks bangraman, I will bare those in mind but i was hoping to find some 'ear bud' style, not 'clip on'. Any other ides?

I am looking for some new earphones and was hoping that you knowledgeable people would be able to help me. The main thing is that I need them to have some sort of cable management (eg- retractable cord) I would rather have in-ear style, possibly with loops over the ears. Ideally price should not exceed £50, but if I have to pay more to get what I want then I will. Thanks for your time

Hi Ishiyoshi, I would really like a similar cradle (vehicle stand) for my Sony Ericsson mobile phone, I've had a quick look at the site but don't understand the language. Would you be able to tell me if there is one or point me in the right direction? Thanks

Hello, I have a 'Songbird' FM transmitter (same as this - HERE) which is really lovely, but, it goes through batteries like there's no tomorrow! So I bought a cable that will run it from the car cigarette power socket. But I need to know the polarity of the unit, does anyone know this? or can anyone tell me how to find-out?

Thanks for your help Leon, I guess long winded it is then! I have been keeping an eye on GYM, it looks great, however I like to have music on my player in Atrac format because it means the battery lasts longer. Thanks again

Hello, I can't find out how to remove/delete compilation albums (various artists) from my HD5, When I plug the HD5 into the computer, the transfer window opens in SS and it can be sorted into 'Artist' or 'playlist' but not album. Thanks.
-
Thanks for your reply, It is all ok on SS, and where my tracks are saved on the computer hard drive. I am going to try deleting the problem albums completely and then re-doing them. If that doesn't work then I shall try your suggestion of re-initialising. Thanks

Additional info (I hope someome can help me!) - While listening to music on my HD5, I found that in relation to the albums that didn't transfer completely - Some songs played normally. Some songs would appear to be playing but no sound was being produced. Some songs i could hear several tracks being played at the same time (over top of each other) very bizarre!

Hello, I recommend contacting the makers of your stereo. I emailed Kenwood with that exact question, they replied with an answer and a price for them to sell me the required cables etc, I haven't ordered yet but will be very soon.

Problem 1 - Originally I transfered my CDs in to SS as MP3 192kbps, I then set them all to transfer to the HD5 (at the same time) as Atrac 192kbps. So all the ablums have been treated in the same way. SS shows all as it should be, but the HD5 has some tracks missing from some of the albums. Problem 2 - I changed the album titles of my compilation albums (in SS) so they had a 'v' at the front (for easy sorting in the player), When I connected the player it seemed to do something (transfer), I then disconnected it and checked it had worked, in SS I have 18 albums titled "v. ..." but only 5 of them are correct in the HD5, the other 13 are as they were before I altered the title in SS. I hope this info helps you to help me!

HAPPY NEW YEAR! I had a lovely time - I was camping (in a van) in a field somewhere near middle England! It's really nice that once you've had a skinful and you're ready for bed, you can see your bed 5meters away! For anybody interested some pics of the party I was at are HERE (I'm the one in jeans, blue coat and beige hat. My van is the blue and white one)

Hello, I'm having some trouble! I'm hoping there's a really simple answer that I just don't know about yet! I have 35 albums in SS and have transfered them to my HD5, for some reason a couple of albums didn't transfer completely (eg- the HD5 only has 12 of the 42 tracks, but all the tracks are in SS 'my library') I then changed some of the details (genres etc) on some of the albums. I connected the player and it seemed to be doing something, when I disconnected the player and looked, it had updated some things but not others (eg- some of the album name changes I had made in SS had transfered to the player, but not others. also, the albums which had tracks missing to begin with still have tracks missing) SS (3.3) has the correct info but the HD5 needs updating - So is there a way of syncronising? Also, is there a 'proper' way of disconnecting the player from the computer? (eg- telling it to eject?) Thanks for any help you can give

Thank-you, I really like the one in Stuges last link. I think I'll wait til the 120GB one is out and priced before deciding what to buy
-
I think I'm going to need an external hard drive as I'm not the only person storing stuff on the home pc. I don't think I'll go for anything with less than 50GB. Has anyone here got one? I'd appreciate anybodies opinion of best / worst / general views, Thanks.

Can you only change the genre to something else that's pre-defined or can you completely name your own? (eg- putting "Jenni1" as a genre?)
