I was wondering if it would be possible to access the two other graphical equalisers on the NWHD5 that are only usable for ATRAC format files? Is there the possibility in the future of a firmware allowing mp3 files to be played using these? This is my only niggle about the player, any advice much appreciated.

I updated to 1.2 on my HD5 yesterday and didn't follow the instruction to back up my collection (as it was all present on that computer). If you have your library on the pc you are using, I don't think you need to worry about re-transferring everything, it seems to just be a sensible precaution .
