sorry for the delay epidot. when you look at your device root folder in explorer, open your OMGAUDIO folder (I think all Sony device have this folder) There will be folders that hold your OMG file, but also there will be other files that are not in the folders. Those are the ones you should be checking. hmmmm..... - How about a firewall? It's possible that SS is trying to pull some info online and the firewall is preventing. Long shot I know, but I cannot think of anything else at this time. - Do you have the new WMP installed? I think it was 11. If so uninstall it, then reinstall SSCP.

Welcome to ATRACLIFE, acekat13 - Do you have IE beta 7 installed? If so uninstall - Run windows update - Do you really want 4.0 ? Install 3.4 back and see if you can get back to where you were. - When you did the full reinstall, did you make sure you got rid of all your registry keys? - What are you system specs?

I don't see how reinstalling IE 6 wouldn't make a difference either. Besides if your doing the weekly windows update automatically, then your IE is updated as well. Is your DirectX up to date ? What version are you running? - You seem to have a low amount of space (20GB) and I am willing to be a great deal less worth of tracks. It may well just be that SS is analizing your 80GB of info. How long have you let the SS splash stay on for? - I wonder also if MCE is the culprit. DOES ANYONE ELSE use MCE here and without problems when using SS???

I don't think reinstalling WINDOWS, will even resolve your problem. Tips - Run a WINDOWS update to get all current patches/fixes, then try it out again. - When was the last time your defragged? - How much space does your computer harddrive hold?

YIPPIEEE!!!! My new battery came in the mail the other day. I love it. It's like I got a brand new player. What usually drained my battery by 1/2 or 3/4s by this time, is now only 1/4 of the way used. I am very excited. True the battery cost me $60, but what other option is there? I am certainly not going to buy another DAP. . . .

All I see is problems problems and more problems with 4.0. I am scared to even try to upgrade and I do not see myself doing this anytime soon. 3.4 is working fine for me and I firmly believe if it's not broke don't try to fix it when it comes to SS. To just go over an example situation and if my fellow ATRACERS can give me their opinion, I would be very grateful to heard from you! If one was to upgrade to 4.0 and was receving errors (too many to discuss, but we all know them) would I be able to downgrade? Saying we could , it would already be too late because the damage is already done to the DAP. Is this correct to say ??

Make sure your not trying to convert from VARIABLE BITRATE Similiar problem I had. When you use SS, your DAP makes a database. When you disconnect, your DAP itself makes a separate database. Your DAP database is corrupted. Access your DAP through explorer and look at the dates in your OMGAUDIO folder (if you have one or the folder where your audio is stored on your DAP). If you files that are outdated delete them then unplug from computer. Your DAP will regenerate its database. Hopefully this will solve your issue. PS - BE SURE TO BACK UP BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING KJ, I have a VP too and I have 45GBS of tracks stored and I always delete and keep my library in SS clear. Do you have any clue as to why you were not able to get it to work? Any possible theories ? If this is something that is mandatory then I would not be upgrading from 4.0 and would stay with 3.4.

I could be wrong, but was there not a warning about using the winamp plug-in and then being able to use GYM/SS again? I believe there was. You should check in on that and ask in the ml_sony thread.

yeah im sure there are a few plug-ins, do a search for an 'output' or 'dsp/effect' plugin

Common problem for all of us at one point or another. Search the forum and read up on it. Uninstall and reinstall, perhaps you'll get lucky

I don't know how keen your ears are, but you really can't get any better than winamp. Great support and great plug-ins. You have an equalizer so you can tweak your levels. Your fine with Winamp. PS - In any event laptops don't have such great speakers ya know?? ...unless you have it hooked up to speakers.

make note, always try to make a back up of your music files on your DAP. just in case (or should I say when it craps out....because we all know it will at one point or another )

ROMANIA, can you access your DAP through windows? If so copy your OMGAUDIO folder. This way at least you have a back up. So what have you done so far?

Why don't we all agree they both have their quirks. Windows has their problems and always will because the software is being designed to be universal, meaning trying to accomodate too all HARDWARE and software vendors. This is something MAC hasn't really got into till recent times. Buy a MAC you get all MAC hardware and nothing from 'the outside'. It is only now that Intel and it's chip, an outside source, is contributing to the Apple brand. The architecture is now known and as a result we can expect to see a rise in virus for MAC OS. IT IS INEVITABLE. ***rhetorical question*** If it were impossible, then why is their Anti-virus software for MACs ???? Historically PCs are the most widely used source in the business world, meaning it is the prime target for attacks. MACs are not as (and I only say this with syntax) popular to the business world, which does not have alot of attention of attackers. What is important to ask is.... Now that APPLE is starting to outsource hardware, Intel chip in particular, how will OS tech support fair with the onslaught . . . . NOTE: Virus on a MAC possible ???
