I've had my NW-HD1 for over two years now, and after learning how to use SonicStage properly (I kept wiping out the songs on the player when I first got it xD), I've never had any trouble with it. If you don't like SonicStage, you can use VAIO Music Transfer instead (still requires SonicStage to be installed on your computer) which sort of allows drag and drop capability. I prefer SonicStage, though.

O_O I thought the NW-HD5 was being sold for $500 when it first got released. The NW-HD1 was being sold for $600.
-
Nope, he said the right prices. It's not too bad, when you compare the 2GB version to the 2GB iPod nano . . . for an extra $80, you get a video player and decent earphones. Not to mention Sony's superb sound quality. They come out here on June 18, but My Sony members can pre-order them until the end of this month and get them two weeks before they're released.
-
On a related note, the NW-A800 series will be out in Australia on June 18, with the 2GB, 4GB and 8GB versions costing AUD$299, $399 and $499 respectively. The 2GB version is $80 more than the 2GB Apple iPod nano.By the way DSP, I like your review!

You don't need to download it, as it should come on a CD with your player.
-
A very long time, if one reads the date as 05.
-
Can't be - otherwise it'd be 07, not 7.
-
I don't think your Walkman's compatible with the remote. Usually the remote control terminal's exposed.
-
I think it's true. When I complained about the battery life of my NW-HD1 a few months after I bought it, I was offered the opportunity to exchange it for a we-just-got-it NW-HD5, as the shop I purchased it from didn't stock the NW-HD1 anymore.
-
I don't have Intelligent Shuffle on my NW-HD1. I wouldn't mind having it, though.
-
You can't unlock the volume in flash-based Walkmans. The beep's that noise it makes when you press a button like play. But maybe you seem to have it off. *scratches head*
-
IEM's. For me, it's not about the sound, but the obvious-ness. xD I can conceal my earphones, whereas I can't conceal my headphones.
-
Meh. Australia isn't getting these until June!
-
The only reason why Europeans are complaining about the volume of their Walkmans is 'cause legislation requires that the volume be limited in Europe. So a Walkman from Europe won't sound as loud as a Walkman from America.

I think automatic song rating works on the basis that the more you play the song, the more stars it'll have. You can also manually rate your songs, if you want, but I don't know how to do that in Connect. As for the second question, I have no idea. xD
-
*scratches head* Try the JEB version? Other than that, I have no other suggestions. O_O

If you download the Asian-Pacific version of SonicStage, it should be able to recognise your player and allow you to put songs on it without having to format the player.
-
I can't answer that question; it depends on one's own ears, I believe. And mymy hearing isn't that great. Why don't you experiment with the different bitrates and see which one you prefer listening to?
-
But the opening poster wanted to maximise the space in their Walkman, so I guess they were willing to sacrifice sound quality. *shrugs* However, it is better if you can rip atrac3plus directly from the source, instead of converting it from a MP3.
-
If your MP3 bitrate is 128kbps, and your atrac3plus bitrate is 128kbps, it'll be the same size. However, atrac3plus at 64kbps is comparable to MP3 at 128kbps. You can fit twice as many songs as you can at 128kbps, and still have the 128kbps sound quality. I hope that cleared things up!

Low price? Not in Australia. " They want AUD$10 a bud, plus postage and handling. Ended up getting my spare buds from a Sony Style store in America, when my cousin went in December. Cost about AUD$11 (or USD$8), and you get six buds, two per size - small, medium and large.
-
I use atrac3plus 64kbps. It was set as the default.
-
Buy a different lanyard. xD I don't think Australia have Sony lanyards. Closest I've seen is lanyards with 'atrac3plus' on it worn by shop assistants.
-
Maybe they were expecting the players to be worn on a neck-chain, like a piece of jewellery. (They do look good! ) Or in the case of the Sports series, on the armband.

I've never heard of the A1xx, but the NW-HD series has a minimum twenty gigs memory capacity, which is more than twice the size of the NW-A800. I guess that's the reason (in my previous post) why the NW-A800 doesn't have a remote.
