OMG!!! YOU HAVE A PAIR OF QUALIAS HEADPHONES!! why dont you share some pic, please
  3. Another victim of my red HD5. A couple of weeks ago I showed my player to a friend of mine, it didnt catch much of his attention, just the words "it's a nice mp3 player". He stopped by my house last night, he has a big smile on his face and black HD5 on his hand. He bought it in a little audio store hidden at city's downtown but it was the last one unfortunately. "what an amazing find" I said "what an amazing player" he replied. HD5 FEVER!! Now if I might get one for my workmate...
  4. huh... but didnt the HD5 win a Cnet prize for the best sound on their category? then the HD5 should be good with or without the equalizer... I wonder
  5. Im checking the iAudio user's guide right now, it has a lot of features which make it seem more like a Palm instead of a music player, I havent asked him whether he wants or needs all these features, all I do know is that he loves my HD5 with no video, no radio, no voice recorder, no text viewer. So regarding to sound quality and user interface (placing the HD5 as the best ) I might assure that the order of the alternatives would be: 1st iAudio? 2dn Toshiba, iPod? 3rd ??? p.s. The price limit is US$270 what I paid for my HD5 (Vanns.com)
  6. I showed my HD5 to one of my workmates and he was amazed, so much that he wants one for himself. Unfortunately I cant find any Sony DAP to a reasonable price. So what are the alternatives? Thosiba or iPod or ... He doesnt want to wait for in coming released.
  7. As you can see in my review I have the ex71. I bought them because every audio forum I visited rated them as the best earphones, and to tell you the truth, they werent wrong. Nevertheless, the headphone matter is a quite subjective, things like comfort, portability and fidelity have to be considered according to the personal necessities. But if a lot of people say they are good that must mean something...
  8. the only and true remote for the HD5 is the MC40ELK. YOU CAN DO EVERYTHING WIHT IT. It's worth the money, you wont regret it check this out: http://www.atraclife.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=882
  9. Well I wouldnt blame the atrac files because they were transferred to minidisc and there wasnt any problem. I would dare to say that the ghost tracks are caused by how the HD5 recognizes a new transfer, maybe it makes a list of the transferred tracks but the player (or SS) doesnt update it when a track is edited in the player, therefore when I wanted to playback that particular track the HD5 f/w does not recognize it. However this doesnt explain the sudden turn off, Im still looking into it, I wont rush it though.
  10. I hope it doesnt happen again but I'll report back if I may figure out the cause.
  11. My HD5 gave me a pretty good scare last night. I changed the album name of a couple of tracks in the player, when I tried to listen them they were nothing but a short noise so I had to come back to the computer to fix them, I deleted them from the player and put them back once again, but this time was even worse, I played back one of those tracks with the battery full charged and a few seconds afterwards the HD5 turned off by itself, WTF!... then I turned on the player and everything got normal so far at least. I dont even want to think that I got a buggy HD5 and those ghost tracks, what's the deal with them? is it a f/w or s/w issue? what about the sudden turn off that I experienced, anyone knows anything?
  12. I tested it as you said: with power adaptor the access it's quite fast although with the battery is ok, nothing to worry about. The level audio output seems the same both ways I tried with low and high volume I found no difference, however what I did notice it's that the output is lower than my MD units; for example: I use to adjust the volume on the NH900 to 15 higher than that it's too much for me but with the HD5 the volume bar has to be almost a quarter away from the top limit (it might be 23) too much difference, isnt it? Speaking of minidisc, what I reallly hate about the NH900 in HiMD mode is the load times and battery consumption. The HD5 is excellente at both, no matter the amount of songs the playback is instantaneous. On the other hand the HD5 (or rather SS) has one thing I didnt like at all. I transferred two songs twice by mistake then when I wanted to play the song back nothing happened, I skipped to next track and that was the song I wanted to listen therefore the HD5 had two files of the same track so I had to eliminate it with SS due to it cant be done directly, kinda bothersome, huh?
  13. Thanks for your comments, Im very happy with it. However it's a shame that the rm38el is half compatible, but I think that I wouldnt use it anyway (having the rm40elk) although Sony should do their player accessories totally compatible.
  14. Thanks Ishiyoshi, I knew that my review was in the wrong place but I didnt want to make two threads.
  15. I just came from a mall where I was testing the portability, HD5+MC40ELK+EX71 were the gear. It felt quite good in my pocket, it wasnt bulky nor heavy. I experienced a flawless playback. I didnt have to take it out from my pocket because with mc40elk I can do everything. I saw two persons wearing mini ipods clipped to thier belts, perhaps they think it's cool everyone else sees them well I think it's cooler wear the mc40elk to operate your hidden Sony player (add to that it's safer and easier). The mc40elk is a must accessory for the HD5; I have pics of the navy, menu and display screens. As I also have the mc38el so I tried as well but the results werent the expected, the display button only gives the elapsed and remaining time, there's no menu, the sound button is buggy it shows nothing but random characters or graphs (see picture), however the playback buttons work without problems.
  16. The new member of the family finally arrived, a beautiful HD5 red. When I ordered from Vanns I was kind of worried because I knew that the player came packaged in a blister but out the cardboard box, I thought that the packing would be unsafe for transportation if you think about the LCD display and the hard drive. Fortunately Vanns packed it quite good and the blister came with no bumbs, no scratches hence the player. After 17 days of waiting, 5 hours of charging and 2 hours testing I can say what amazing audio device, it feels quite well designed, too similar to my Sharp DS70 but heavier which is good because it can not beat the E10 confort for outdoor usage, in fact any of my players can, that way the usefulness of my md units will keep intact (the HD5 might be a MD killer you know) My new player has a look, well, like a cool as hell red gameboy! The buttons are soft and solid (I hope they wont get cracked), the user interface is intented to a 10 years old kid, I havent even seen the manual nor the quick guide, it's too easy! The mp3 transfering with SS 3.3 was simple and fast (I dont know why people complaints about it afaik iTunes works the same way). The sound in Atrac format (132k) is identical to the NH900 one, the mp3 (192k) sounds just like LP2 in my MZ-NF610, good but not excellent as Atrac. On the other hand, I do have one complaint and one worry so far: A. The cover for the USB is so fragil as it wasnt meant to last B. The battery lid of the NH900 got colorless and the corners too, so I hope nothing of this happen to the HD5. p.s. pics to come
  17. Target has the Sony NW-HD5 at $329.99 and there's no sign of the A series. Anyone?
  18. hmm... could it be a misprinting or an euro model? well, google shows the same links as yours. This forum and its brother at minidisc.org where there are plenty of Sony remote Gurus never posted about this model with the number "2" in the end. So, I would choose the first explanation.
  19. Searching the web it looks like if I were the person who bought the last HD5 unit in the States
  20. There's only one model RM-MC35ELK, maybe you misread the info. This remote appears to be one of the optional accessories according to the NWA3000 user manual. So search only for this model at audiocubes.com, Ebay, or Sony direct accessories.
  21. something like 80's rock/pop, italodisco, hiphop, but mainly progressive and chill-out. The weird thing is I live in a latin country but I dont listen latin music at all.
  22. That's relief! but even so it was a short life for this player..
  23. is that so?... it's possible that the HD5 was a bad experience for Sony or something and I picked up the wrong one? ...oh no
