  1. did u mean the N910 is getting replaced soon?? because the R910 was out quite a while ago before the N10 was released...
  2. i would recommend any of the Sharp MD models...all of them are very decent recorders and the cost varies...but even the cheaper models would do for most recording jobs...
  3. yeh this should be fine even if you don't have a sony md unit to record to... i own a DS8 unit (which is the player equivalent to these models and i hav'n run into any such problems such as these... i think they're like modified versions of the OEM sennheisers...not exactly sure but they look similar to the MX500's but with a 4 pole connector...

    MD to mp3 question

forgot to add on from what Manuel said above that when you want to record from MD -> mp3 make sure at least you record in this bitrate for mp3's for : ~ SP record at least at 320kbps mp3 ~ LP2 at least at 192kbps ~ LP4 at least 96kbps these are approx the mp3 equivalent to MD's ATRAC encoding rates so i suggest that as a minimum you record at these bitrates...
  5. there's no software difference between the Sony models as they ship with more or less exactly the same software across the range...
  6. ??? i'm kinda confused atm so lemme take a while and get this straight... you recorded a song in SP mode onto your MD unit not using OpenMG and you can upload/check-in to OpenMG??? because if so then kurisu is right and NetMD wasn't designed so that you can upload songs that you have recorded (or a friend recorded) from the MD -> PC...but if you transfered the song via NetMD thru OpenMG on another computer (in SP mode) and try to check the song into your computer this also won't allow you to do this...i'm not quite sure what you're trying 2 get at here so i apologize if i misunderstood the message you're trying to get across to us...

    N10 or N1 or N910

a few extra grams on the N1 isn't going to make much of a difference...and i like the sound output of my N1 as opposed to my N10...the N910 is an interesting unit and seems like the model inbetween the two series so i would probably suggest you to take a look at that model...alternatively you could take a look at the new Sharp models as they seem to be very promising models...

    MD to mp3 question

to my knowledge i don't think there is ne official software that will allow netmd transfers from a mac...there are however user made programs (i can't remember the link sorry so if ne1 else knows that is reading this thread could help me out, then that would be good)
  9. i kinda agree with KJ_Palmer...better to get a cheap Sharp unit over Sony because of their higher powered amp...though if you want to go all the way and get a N910 then i suggest you also take a look at the DR7 from Sharp as well as the upcoming DR420/480 models as well...
  10. IMO Sharp has better recording functionality when you're recording...simple things such as being able to adjust recording levels on the fly help a lot...coupling that with the new 1-Bit amp then you have one fine unit...for good price to quality i would suggest that you get the DR7 model which right now would be a bargain because the newer DR420 and models of that range are beginning to emerge...the DR7 is more or less adequate to your needs and does not lose out to the newer units by much (the newer units have NetMD functionality which is useless other than if you want to download music from your PC -> MD, but they have no LCD which is a minus on those units)...the earbuds that come with basically all the newer Sharp units are rebadged OEM Sennheiser MX500's (i think) and these earbuds already are praised for their price and sound quality so that's another advantage Sharp has over Sony...
  11. well try another 11EL remote if you can find one and see if that works...because i'm pretty sure it would work on the N505 unit...but if the remote is the culprit then you have no choice but to replace it with another that isn't backlit or fix it...
  12. 9mm??? i thought the E805's (i think they're the model that came with the N505) have a 16mm driver...only the EX71's that i own (inner-ear design) have a 9mm driver...all the rest such as the E838's that came with my N10 and the E888's which i use primarily on my N1 and N10 all come with 16mm drivers...
  13. not too sure about if you can do it on MD's since i'm not 100% if there is any unit and program out there that will allow you to recover data like that but if it can be done on a hard drive there could be a slight chance it will be able to work on an MD (tho i'm probably wrong...)
  14. hehe...so Sony do make their units to be versatile multifunctional devices after all...
  15. i havn't used a Euro model N710 before but i hav used an Australian model N710 and the sound is relatively good...it is indeed listenable in public places...though i hear many complaints about the Euro N710 being wayyy too weak...but others say it seems fine...IMO i would either buy them from an internet site that ship from Japan for the 5mW model or buy the N707 if you are worried about the sound being weak...though i'm sure u can get a test unit to try out while you are at the store, so you could try that first before you make up ur mind...
  16. i agree with you on this one...i've used MD's since the 94 with my trusty R2 and have been using it ever since...very reliable and flexible medium...
  17. yep u can...there are many different models though and practically all of them are better than the ones that came with ur unit...if you buy a pair of Sony ones look for ones that say "Neck Chain Style" on the box so that you get the ones that has one cord longer than the other...

    SonicStage 1.5.5

use the creative recorder to record to a .wav file in PCM or higher (i.e. DAT quality) and then encode the files to mp3's if need be...this is how i do it...

    What software ????

on the r30 u can't really d/l or u/l music files onto it via NetMD since it's not a NetMD capable recording unit...so basically you can use any playback software for recording to the MD (i.e. winamp or mp32md) and any recording software to the PC (Adobe Audition or Creative Recorder)...
  20. heyy there, well IMO i don't think there's anything wrong with using NiMH in that MD unit as opposed to normal alkalines...they do however have a voltage output difference...the alkalines usually pump out about 1.5V as compared with the 1.2V NiMH's pump out but this lower number shouldn't get you worried since they work without a problem when i use the AA attachment cases on all my MD units (i use high capacity NiMH's in all of them)...so it should be fine...
  21. oops sorry...i forgot about this...SimpleBurner allows you to do trackmarks after u'v transfered over...
  22. i'm assuming the original mp3 files played back fine...is this so???
  23. the NetMD technology does NOT allow you to upload music from your MD to your PC but allows only downloads from the PC to the MD unit... well the N710 is a pretty good unit though if you are worried about getting a 1.2mW Euro model of the N710 then look at buying it from an internet site like say Japan Direct...otherwise the N707 isn't all to bad since it was also a relatively recent unit and has a 5mW output...I wouldn't say it is a bad unit since most functions are retained in the new unit (N710) but a little more features (which most people hardly ever use) has been added...
  24. i'm sorry to hear of ur problems and disappointment to the NetMD format that Sony has so kindly introduced to the mass market...being somewhat not quite what people had expected in the end product, it leaves many unsatisfied with this new technology...in time it will change and maybe one day the dream of a hassle-free, simple-to-use MD unit with very fast transfer speeds may not seem too far off...but for the time being we are stuck with what Sony has given us however buggy or inconvenient it may be...true i do complain at times of the NetMD being more of a pain than of a valued asset but it is far better/faster than recording in real-time i spose so it doez the job as is...
  25. np, glad to have helped...and i also second kurisu's recommendation of waiting a while longer if you are not in a hurry to buy the unit since the price would have dropped even more by then since the new units will be out and the DR7 will eventually be phased out as the flagship model of Sharp...otherwise u can buy it now if need be since the price of the unit atm is already considered a very good buy...best of luck...
