I doubt it seriously that any Hi-MD deck will ever come stateside, mainly for the same reason why NetMD decks didn't come to North America, ther simply isn't a big enough market for minidisc over here. Hi-MD was marketed as an mp3 device, something to compete with flash drives whose media cost one hundred times more for the same capacity, not a traditional minidisc unit per se. Mainly, the deck would have to have a very large control faceplate, to facilitate the many functions that Hi-MD has, mainly the vast capacity of the disk would mean an easy method to browse through thousands of songs. If one didn't use group method for organization, this would be an extremely lengthy process. And on top of this, viewing this on the traditional two line LCD would make you scream and holler. The ability to view a larger control template via TV would simplify this process tremendously. It is possible, but simply thinking about everything that one deck would need to deal with the capacity would drive the price up several hundred dollars more than the traditional QS series line. At least this is what I think

Hello. Been a member here quite a while but don't really post that much. For references, please look here at head-fi, minidisct, and eBay. Thanks! Up for sale is the highly-regarded Sony MDR-D77 eggo. Introduced in 1993, discontinued along with the D11, D33, and D55 in 1996. A search on Head-Fi (if the search function is available) will lend you the information necessary. These phones are in good condition. Sonically excellent condition, cosmetically 70%-80%. The ear cups have minor scratching and the ear adjusters have a few scratches as well. These phones do NOT come with the circular zipper pouch (although it is available from the DAPC, but the bag really isn't worth it). The only items included are the headphones, LP cable, and 1/4th screw-on adapter that attaches directly to the LP cable. The only thing wrong with these headphones is that the cable works 99% of the time, and only cuts out if the cable is twisted in a certain direction at the jack. However, both the LP (3.5mm -> MP) & SP (MP -> MP) are available from the Sony DAPC. Just type in MDR-D77 in the model number and the parts are listed. The cheaper of the two is the LP, and the more expensive is the SP. Have a Hi-MD question that doesn't need a thread? [part II]
tbdoah replied to Christopher's topic in Minidisc
I'm pretty sure the LiP-4WM is the same size as the NH-14WM except that the voltage/mAh is much different. 3.6 4WM/1.2 14WM, 800 mAh/1350 mAh. That's really old that Sony has removed the feature that most people have used since the beginning of minidisc (with the exception of the MZ-1 and R2 of course). If Chris says that the NH1 doesn't have a AA battery attachment, then I believe him. Kind of sucks though. IIRC, it was a blanks shortage that has been delaying the released of Hi-MD in the United States. Wal-Mart is supposedly supposed to have the deal of a 3 pack @ 9.99 USD. That's not really that bad, considering a CF media that's two GB excedes $400 and a four GB excedes $800+ easily. Not worth at all as you can easily tell . I really think the success of Hi-MD will rely on the rate of success as a storage medium. No other medium has the storage to price ratio as low as Hi-MD. The only thing that might deter users away is the propietary software that Sony keeps pushing on us all :whatever:. -
If you give us a little more information, we might be able to help you a little more :rasp:. Why wouldn't a product ship with a power cord? Since you're talking about a product at audiocubes, it is most likely has a Japanese 100v ac supply. North american outlets usually have 115v outlets. AS you can see, you have a 15v difference in voltage. Therfore, the purchase of a step-down voltage converter safely removes the 15v. Some say, as kurisu stated, that a converter isn't necessary. Some have tested the draw and have gotten proper voltage, but I wouldn't trust that. As kurisu stated, the purchase of a converter will settle all qualms or fears you have. The Kashimura brand chargers available from audiocubes works exceptionally well. Good luck!

I'm sorry mate, but I believe your beloved unit is dead. The 702 was infamous for its UTOC error, that plagued early sharps through the MT831 generation. However, in your case, I do not believe you have the UTOC error. I believe your optical pickup assembly is failing. When my N1 was dying because of a failing optical pickup assembly, I tried disc cleaners and isopropyl. Disc cleaner discs would play fine, but normal discs wouldn't. I have no explanation for this either. There is nothing you can do about your unit, unless you truly want to get the unit repaired, which would cost more than the price of a used one on eBay, moreover the price of a new, modern unit alone. Sorry if this isn't the information you wanted to hear .

IIRC, the gumstick supplied with the 900 is in fact the NH-14WM, so your battery life would be the same. Almost every single sony high-end md recorder has had the AA-battery addon feature. I don't see why this model would be any different. IIRC, no information yet has been released on buying additional LIP-4WM. However, these batteries will most definately be avilable from Sony directly, abeit though at exorbant prices. You'd simply have to wait for retailers to begin to stock these batteries at much lower prices than from Sony direct. Currently, Sony only has made one gumstick battery charger that charges two gumsticks, which model number eludes me at the moment. All the other gumstick chargers they have made only charged one at a time. However, some people have found Ni-MH chargers where the gumstick fits perfectly, so they have been able tocharge multple gumstick batteries at once. In other words, yes, you'd have to charge them individually unless you would be able to find a charger like the one people use for Ni-MH gumsticks except for Li-Ion. I'm pretty sure that the NH1's charging method is through the stand only. -
I wouldn't buy from Minidisco if your buying internationally. Minidisco is geared as being a US-buyer based retailer. Once you've had your unit for ninety days, you'll have to contact Sony by yourself to have the warranty covered/unit repaired, which would be through Sony Asia Pacific. It'd be better off for you to buy from Hyperjack/Audiocubes, as they have better repair/warranty for international buyers, and in the case of repair you would send the unit back to them and they have the unit repaired by Sony Japan. Good luck with whatever you do!

PCM is a record-on-unit option only. PCM can't be transferred via NetMD. On the other hand, AL is awesome, I've already re-formatted almost have my iPod library to accomadate the new format. Time will tell before PCM and AL will be compared.

Sorry for the late tag in here, but if you yourself really want to emphasize a link simply place a color tag inside the link tag as you would with html except with this "BBCode." Tsk Chris, why doesn't HTML work?

The only current sports minidisc is the MZ-S1. You can usually buy a new S1 off of eBay for a little bit less than $100. Having owned the S1 and being a distance runner myself, I can provide some insight. The S1 has all that you ask for, long battery life, anti-skip, lots of music space in LP2 or LP4 mode, hand strap. It's ergonomically designed, as all Sony S2 Sports models, to stay in your hand. The S1 isn't that heavy. Three or four ounces at most. My only gripe was on an 11 mile LSD (not the drug, long slow distance) at a cross country practice, I ran out of music (I only use SP mode, so I only had 80 minutes of audio), and after about 50 minutes into the run, my palm was so sweaty that I had switch hands and dry off my palm on my already soaked shirt. The unit seemed to get heavy only after the music had stopped, I guess it lost it's purpose and no longer was doing anything for me. Regardless, I miss the S1, and I recommend it to all MD users who use the MD while exercising. Sony may or may not release a Hi-MD upgrade to the S1, we'll just have to wait. Good luck!

I wish Andrew the best. Has he left the TBoard as well?

Help for Old MD Headphone Connection Sony MD-RZ2, MD-RZ3
tbdoah replied to jeffmccann's topic in 'phones
The part that is in question is PC-MP1S. This can be bought direct from the Sony DAPC for $9.99 + tax & shipping or from Audiocubes for $12+ shipping. -
No, the amp is the same new-gen amp first released on the E720.

Audiocubes is running screwy as well.
