Hello, i finally made my first live recording with my Sharp MD-MT180, Sound Prof minature binaurals and Sound Pro slimline battery box through the line-in input. The quality is very very good, i put the recording levels to max and i think the bass roll-off to 96KHZ, the only minor problem is that the bass drum is too crunchy. Anyways, my real problem is that on the last song, it stops and then plays a second then stops at one part many times for about 10 seconds of the song. I think it could be the minidisc or my recorder?, is there any way to clean the minidisc if it is that problem so that it plays smoothly instead of locking up every second? Cheers fatpotatohead

True, well hopefully it will work. Thanks for the info though. Someday I'll pick up a DR7 in the future, but from the sounds of it, this will probably do. I can probably increase the volume with CoolEdit or other programs of that ilk if a recording does not turn out.

Yeah a remote would be so handy but its still possible to function without, i just want to record onto 80minute disks. Ok, so the sound could be quieter even if the battery box is plugged into the line-input and i have the recording levels on high?

Hey, recently I purchased a pair of mini-binaurals and a battery module with bass roll off from soundprofessionals.com. Im really strapped for cash right now and have noticed that the Sharp Mt-180 is being sold for very cheap on ebay. Well, obviously this is not a top of the line MD or even close to being the best, but would it be suitable for just recording concerts with my other equipment?, i don't plan on using it for anything else but recording loud metal concerts. Will i be fine with an MT-180? even if it does lack certain features and such.

Best set-up for recording Metal/Prog Rock concerts?

"has only an email address to contact them, no phone number, no regular address." That is an interesting point, and I do notice that about Noodles. But, you should file a complaint, find out if they are a legitmite buisness, and post whatever results that you come up with after the complaints are filed... Do it, you lose nothing out of it eh. And please make a new post with what you find out. -
Alright, hey I changed this post. It was originally about choosing the right MD recorder. I have just decided on going with the Sharp MD-MT180, because it is cheaper and easy to get. Yes, it has no mic input, but thats what I would like to ask about. Ok, even with a battery pack + mics that are connected to the line-in input, it still creates quiet sounding recordings correct?. Now, I need a pre-amp to bring the levels back up to normal, so what exactly is a pre-amp?, and do i need to have pre-amp mics to have louder sounding recordings? Or does the battery module do all this?, thus i don't need a pre-amp? Im a little confused about this, hope it makes sense.

hmm.. i don't know what to say, some people here seem to be very happy with their mics that they purchased from stealthaudio.net. Anyways, whats some good online stores to purchase older Sharp MD recorders, ebay is not turning up anything + I want a warranty. -

Why wouldn't you just email the guy at sleathaudio.net about your shipment, if you haven't done that already. Does anyone know where to purchase older model Sharp MD recorders on the web? -
Best set-up for recording Metal/Prog Rock concerts?

Well im likely to get the premium binaurals / battery module from stealthaudio, thanks for the suggestion. The minidisc recorders from Sharp that are a bit older and that have mic input are the MD-MT770 or MT888, I am thinking about either one of those models. The problem is, I cannot find them for sell, thus I have no price estimate. But yes, I am looking for an older and less expensive Sharp MD. The Sharp 180 was under a 100$ and brand new on ebay, plus there were about 10+ for sale. Anyways, if you know of any other older models from Sharp that may suite my recording projects and that are for sale on the web (link provided please), then by all means please share! -

hmm last time it didn't log me in, well i am fatpotatohead! Anyways, thanks for replying Chris, I am definitly going to purchase a battery module from stealthaudio.net becuase it is cheaper and in canadian prices as well. Their mics are also cheapest I have seen, im thinking probably the premiums, but once again, can't decide on binuaral or cardoid heh. As for the MD recorder, would you have any suggestions?... specifically from Sharp and that records 80min in normal mode. And, why is the mic jack needed?...i was under the impression that it is not necessary for reasons I already explained in my first post.
