So I'll stop being hopeful and forget about wanting digital or even balanced outputs in a portable MD recorder. What unit should I be looking at for around $200-300 for live music recording? My usage will be direct line out from a mixing board when I play with a few bands and occasionaly via a microphone at concerts/clubs/shows.

That's a bummer. I really like the media format and cost of the media. Portable DAT players without SCMS cost $700-800 and they have poor battery life.

Sorry, I should have more clear - I am looking for a portable unit to accomplish this.
