  1. Yes youre right, shorting the resistors (R106, R206) will do it.(The resistors even marked with "*" so its easy to find them But i wasn't able to find them on the pcb layout (i guess its on p.40 NF810 s.manual). But i would be very carefull when shorting the resistors, i guess the package of the resistor will be very small (smaller than 1206), and if other parts are located next to the resistors you could easily damage them! I own an MZ-N10 (EU version, with lower output power),and i must say its not necessary. You could buy earphones with an higher sensitivity (>103db/mW). Hope that could help.
  2. Try to decode the mp3 to wav and then to atrac3, maybe that works! Hope that will work! CYA mike
  3. hmm i would say BB stands for BroadBand? And the NetMD support (i guess) will be like an online store you buy the songs and transfer it to you netmd device. CYA mike
  4. Download dbPowerAmp (search in google) then concert to wave an import via sonicstage! (works great with 320kps mp3s) CYA mike
  5. Ooops sorry Daijoubu, dont saw it =) (was a little bit dizzy while i was reading the post ) hmm n10 manual p.42 IC361 headphone amp. i guess it has something to do with the resistors (marked: different values differ. countries) But i dont know if the are part of an filter or an voltage divider to limit the out. power! CYA mike
  6. Did not found IC302 only 301, and page 44 is an schematic of the ic that controls the pick-up motor (i guess)! hmm the service manual of the n10 would be cool =) (hmm i ll search for it!) CYA mike
  7. I had some problems like that, i think sonicstage only supports MPEG 1 Layer 3 files up to 256kbps (320 wont play, i tried it)! Maybe you have not the correct file format! Try to decode the music file to wave (with MpegDjgowave, freeware, not an abd tool)and then import it, worked with the 320kbps very well =) Hope that could help =)

    Group Function

No problem, i just discovered it last weekend =) (got my FIRST md unit last friday, so im very new to it) CYA mike =)

    Group Function

Yep you can do it like that! It worsk perfect on my MZ-N10, you just need to go to the menu (dont know exaclty look up the manual) click on the first song and on the last song, and viola they are in a group =) CYA mike
  10. I love and i love it, except the 2 dust corns on my display ;( hmm... but an an great unit anyway =) CYA mike
  11. Hey Daijoubu do you have schematics of the n10 ouput stage? Why do you know its only some resisitors/capacitors, simple opamp output stage? CYA mike
  12. Today i got my sony MZ-N10! It is my first md unit, and its amazing everything works perfect (optical in with ps2, and the usb-transfer)!!! I love this unit!!! CYA mike
  13. Hmm i read something in this forum that the 2mW limit is because in france the have an law (maybe to protect their ears  ) for maximum output power and sony needs correct the output to sell it in france, i guess then the european version also got an 2mW output. That could be even found in the md units manuals, download the n10 manual and go to p.80 : 2mW + 2mW (16Ohm) (European models) 5mW + 5mW (16Ohm) (Other models) Strange, but i really want to know if there is really a huge difference in the maximum volumne (clear sound at max. vol., not high vol. with distortions), that would be the question :? ?
  14. Hm did you compared or measured the difference between an 10mW and an 5mW output? That would answer my question up to 100% =) And yes Sony models have different output: Euopean versions 2mW, other countries 5mW.
  15. Hi all, iam from vienna/austria, and i want to know if there are some good MD-Shops in vienna! That would help me a lot, see you mike
  16. Hey, i have heard/read that the european version of the md players have only an output power of 2mW, everywhere in the world the md players do have an 5mW output. Is then an european md player not so loud as an us/jap md player? Or do the have some trick, maybe lower the impedance of the headphones, or something like that? Maybe someone own an european md player and an us/jap md player, if one does, maybe you could test it, that would be great. Thanks, cya Mike
  17. Yep, there should be no problem, like Kj said, to change the magnetic information on the disk you need to heat it up (the recorder does that with the laser). So no data should be lost on you MD. But the magnetic field could probably disturb the "microchips" (ics), if the circuit board in the md unit is not good shielded. Hope that could help.
  18. I don't know how atrac works exactly, but when you digitze an analog signal with "analog to digital converters" (ADCs), the accuracy is given in bits. For example: 1.) adc 8bit, 2^8=256 steps, so an amplitude of an signal could be digitized in 256 steps. 2.) adc 16bit, 2^16=65536 steps, higher accuracy than 8bit. So when you want to reproduce the signal, with an digital-to-analog conveter, up to 100% you would need infinite bits. Thats for "normal" adcs, i dont know how atrac works in detail, i thought i have read something about that atrac splits the frequency bandwidth (2-20000Hz) into 3 bands, but i dont know if atrac does that digital or with 3 seperate adcs. Hope that could help you(iam not good in explaining things in english), cya mike
  19. Hey guys&girls  , I have a question concerning the remote of the N10 md unit. Is it true that the EU/Jap/USA models have different remotes? EU model http://www.minidisc.org/images/sony_mzn10_euro_big.jpg Jap model http://www.minidisc.org/images/sony_mzn10.jpg USA model http://www.minidisc.org/images/sony_mzn10_usa.jpg I looks like the USA remote is different, but the EU & Jap remote (i guess) are the same, but the jap pic shows it with two tiny text lines and on the european pic it has one big text line. Is it possible to switch between two display schemes on the EU/Jap N10? cya mike
  20. Hi! Pre-amp = pre amplifier I guess you searched for that: http://www.minidisc.org/part_Microphone_Preamps.html right? hope i could help you with this
