Success!! Well, it turned out it was a capitalization issue. In my edits, I had paired <font> with </Font>. Capitalizing the first tag made it work. Thanks for the help and for posting the original procedure--it makes a huge readability difference on my system.

Thanks for the reply! It must be something on my end. I used the "Ultra-Edit" method (big timesaver!!), so I know it's not a typo, and I checked the files to make sure that the edits are correct...so I'm stumped, especially since I used the same process on 3.4 without trouble. At least I know now that it should work, so I'll keep trying. Thanks again!

Hi, Has anyone been able to enable ClearType in SS 4.0? I used the procedure posted here on SS 3.4 without any problem, but when I updated to 4.0, SonicStage crashed. I tried it again after reinstalling, but no luck. Thanks--these forums are always so helpful.
