  1. "Sure, blank media has disappeared from the high street shops" LOOK: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller...p;Q=*&bhs=t
  2. Wow , never knew that there even was blank 8 track. My understandng was that it was a play only format and recording to tape did not happen until cassettes. What is RHW? 50 decks? what 's that about? I just have one and two for backup. now Woof, why do you like MD so much? Finally, can you guys answer this one for me: There also the idea, tell me if I'm wrong, that Sony, who will be around after we all die, MAY supply new affordable media for all machines they make for next 50 years or so, ie, cassette decks, mini discs, Dat recorders etc, not for profit, but just not to piss off their clients who own hundreds of thousands of these machines.
  3. Kino you can get as many as you want, brand new, at $1.50 at J&R music or B&H Photo. now. that is RHW? 50 decks? what 's that about? 4. Excellent post Ral! Where did you get that name, what does it mean? Those disc on ebay, postage may cost more disc. that's issue, I like to get 100 at time. but thanks for reminding me not to be scared of used disc if need be. Where will you be in 20 years? will I still record on MD? who knows. If hard drive space finally becomes silly cheap maybe then I'll finally bail. (it still up to 40¢ Gig) Pawn shops don't work! They have nothing. But Craig's list: that's a great ticket.
  5. Ral, agree with Kino's pessimistic statement. Kino, what mean, need money now, confusing. are you gonna buy ton now? There also the idea, tell me if I'm wrong, that Sony, who will be around after we all die, MAY supply new affordable media for all machines they make for next 50 years or so, ie, cassette decks, mini discs, Dat recorders etc, not for profit, but just not to piss off their clients who own hundreds of thousands of these machines.
  6. Ral, I just went on ebay, I don't see cheap media there. Even there it's $1.50 unit at least which is same as buying new now. And my worries are more in 5-20 years on, if I'm still an MD guy.
  7. Ral: thanks for the optimistic outlook.
  8. What do you guys think? We will wake up one day and MD media will be gone or exoribitant? Or will it be like cassette tapes and dat and be available and moderately priced for decades to come? What do you all think?
  9. great info Barock, curious, now, you guys are in my boat I guess. I got my first home deck in 1998. I have ipod etc, but still love MD for home recording. What is future of minidisc, home deck, MD media? I'm 45 and plan on using this medium till I'm 100. So I'm buying few used decks and new decks to be safe -- worry bit about media though.
  10. Thanks Guitar: Just checked, nothing about Rec anything in menu.
  11. NO just edit, delete the track, and then record, its just more work, what happened to the feature??
  12. What happened to record over exisiting track? that was not an insignificant thing.
  13. Guitar: I don't follow you. Anytime you hit record you are recording from the end anyway. If you have five tracks and hit record you are now recoding from the end to a 6th track. But this was a nice feature to record over the pre-existing track? It's history?
  14. New strange thing: ON this new unit, I have track 1 on pause and I hit record, to record over it, but instead of recording over the track nothing happens. I tried the remote and the unit. Could it be possible there is no 'record over exisiting track" ?? thanks.
  15. Excellent Rich you nailed it. thanks
  16. I've tried 3 times to change email address for forum, but each time get "security setting incorrect" even though I entered correct number. Also, can find a contact for the site
  17. Just got the new MDS-JE480. I have other older home units. But I do not see time remaining button or anything either on the unit or remote. Can it be you cannot ever see time remaining? Never seen any digital player for home, CD etc. that at least did not have time remaining on the unit. thanks.
  18. Question, I have for long time the MDS-JB940. I can record LP, but default is normal mode 80min. the new decks for sale, MDSJE480, are advertised as Long Play modes. Curious do you have to record at MDLP with these only? And curious, besides not having a digital out, is pretty much same as what i'm used to? ie remote control and rest. thanks!
  19. Hmm that's interesting, how would I test that, in short, the stoppage would have to apprear on every mini disc at say 4 min and 5 seconds regardless of which track etc? If not, then it's back to the drawing board? NO need to play disc, like I said, it's not the player of either disc, it's the recorder of present deck or discs, or just weird flukes. anyone else experience this? still waiting on whole lots answer, and what guys think of lens cleaners?
  20. thanks Whole. Dont understand that shutter door etc. Perhaps you could send a sceenshot. Now I've never had this issue before and it's now 3 times in Row ( just happened with 3rd MD) You think it's definitely the disc or perhaps the recording part of the recorder? also, these are brand new MDs. do you belive in thosec lens cleaners?
  21. I have home based unit for 8 years, no issues ever. For first time I have two disc, back to back, both stop playing after a minute or so. Fortunately I have a back up player, and tested with that and it acted up with backup player, telling me problem is with discs. These are Sony, says, shock coating, color collection. I got off E bays few years ago, brand new. I've used 30 or so with no issues. Is this a fluke. Any ideas appreciated. thanks!
  22. So if any MD geniuses out there know my unit, and cal tell me similar unit. please let me know. that list quite hard to read.
  23. thanks good. lot of stuff though, if anyone know of the comparable units to mine please let me know
  24. I have the MDS-JB940. It's a home unit with remote. Cant find any on e bay right now, so want to ask: what other models are basically the same as mine? that has all same features and records also on 80 min HD with digital out.thanks!
