  1. Hi. I'm looking for a program that I believe I saw a reference to SOMEWHERE on minidisc.org that strips a some kind of data that is written to the beginning of a .wav file. The data that gets written makes the .wav file "hesitate" during playback. I've run into this hesitation problem several times. I can't remember the name of the file, but I thought that part of the name included "2wav" or "wav". I WISH I could remember! Does anyone know of this program? Where can I find it? Help! Thanks in advance.
  2. Hi. I'm trying to do some on-site digital recording. I'll be starting with some friends playing guitar and possibly singing. (I've already gotten a Dean Markley humbucker pickup and have done a test recording. It sounds "okay.") I purchased a Sony NetMD MZ-N707 (it has a MIC. input) at a good price, thinking that I'd be able to digitally transfer my audio from the MD to the PC. After scanning many websites and FAQ's, it appears that a digital transfer is NOT possible, or certainly not anywhere near as easy as I had first anticipated. I'm still within the grace period for getting my money back on the N707. It looks to me that I need to get a MiniDisc deck with a digital (preferrably optical) output jack, to be able to digitally transfer audio from MD to PC. But, now I'm seriously doubting that this approach really makes sense. That is, I don't think I should I be spending more money on a MD deck, if, for the same amount of money, I could get a portable or reasonably portable CD recorder? It doesn't bother me too much to carry around a few pieces of gear (CD recorder, preamp, cables, etc.)--I'm more concerned about dumping too much money into something that I already know will sound like "ATRAC," especially if there is a higher-quality way to go. Know what I mean? I am making phone calls today to see whom in my area has some of the gear that I'm looking for, but since I don't know have lots of experience with what gear is good, I would be MOST appreciative if someone (anyone!) could please provide some feedback on any or all of these questions: 1. Who makes a good portable CD recorder? (If you know them, please provide model numbers.) 2. Who makes a good CD recorder deck (like you would put in your entertainment center, along with your TV, stereo, etc.)? 3. What portable CD recorder or CD recorder deck would have a MIC. input? Do any have a MIC. input or do they all have LINE in's? 4. What CD recorders (portable and deck) have digital in's? 5. What CD recorders (portable and deck) have digital out's? (Please distinguish between optical and Coaxial, if you know.) 6. Incidentally, I'm not into MP3's. Would .wav files be the way to save my audio? Is there a better, higher-quality file format? If you do respond to this posting, please indicate if you've used such-and-such a piece of gear. (Thanks.) Please keep in mind that I don't mind carrying around a CD recorder deck. My first choice, however, would be a smaller, portable CD recorder, preferrably set up with MIC. and/or LINE in's. Thanks VERY much in advance!! (I posted this to a few forums here only for the sake of getting more users to read this.)
  3. By the way, has anyone had any success with the following method? 1. Record audio onto MD using portable MD. (Please specify if SP mode was used, or if not SP mode, what mode was used.) 2. Remove audio disc from portable recorder. 3. Place audio disc into MD deck (please specify brand and model of MD deck.) 4. Transfer audio on disc into PC via coax. digital or optical cable to sound card or other PC device equipped with digital IN. (Please specify which cable, coax. or optical, was used.) Thanks in advance!
  4. Suckspeed, This is what I want to do. I'm in search of a way to do digital transfers MD-->PC (so that I can edit my audio on the PC and eventually burn a CD). I, too, don't care how long it takes to do the transfer, but I want it to be digital. What brand and model MD do you have that has a digital out? Thanks VERY much in advance. Also, thanks so much for posting the specific brand and model of your sound card. I will certainly consider this card. (If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for the sound card?)
  5. Steely, PLEASE, PLEASE post the appropriate model number(s) for the Sharp and/or cradle that you mention here. There are MANY folks (myself included) who would LOVE to do DIGITAL MD-->PC transfers. (This is, in fact why I got my MD in the first place!!) This very weekend, in fact, I am trying to pull together a transfer scenario that will work. I would LOVE to be able to take my N707 back for a refund and get the Sharp if I knew that the Sharp would do the trick for me. What did you mean when you said, they may have an adapter for digital output on the go? Do you mean that you'd be able (with said adapter) to do digital output (from the MD) without having to use the cradle? (Any word on the "unused data" pins mentioned here?) ** THANKS SO MUCH IN ADVANCE, STEELY!!! **
  6. This looks like an interesting product for those of you who are interested in MD-->PC digital transfers... http://www.esdl.co.uk/body/mdte/mdte.htm Does anyone know the price on this product? Has anyone had any experience with this product? Does anyone know of anyone else who makes a MD data drive?

  9. I purchased an MZ-N707 as an open-box special at what I thought was a decent price from Sears. Originally, it sold with some accessories. I have only the N707. I don't have any software or a manual, save what I've downloaded from the internet. I had been wanting to get an MD for quite some time because I heard/read that it would do some decent recording. One reason I picked up the N707 is because it has a microphone-in jack. Also, the thing is SOOO small, I can take it anywhere. (This is a huge thing for me!) Here is my primary application: I want to record some friends of mine who play guitar and sing. I want to be able to **DIGITALLY** transfer the MD audio from the MD to my PC. I want to use the highest quality recording mode for the recording. My PC is equipped with an optical IN and an OPTICAL out jack on the motherboard. I AM NOT INTERESTED IN USING THE MD AS A TRANSFER STATION TO PLAY AROUND WITH MP3's! I don't especially care how long it takes to DIGITALLY transfer **MY** music from the MD to the PC. Realtime is okay with me. Also, I'm not especially hung up on fancy titling, at this point. I just need a way to digitally get audio from the MD to the PC. From what I've been reading (on minidisc.org and many other websites), it seems to me that much of the software that's out there is geared to PC-->MD transfers, but very little is set up for MD-->PC (DIGITAL!!) transfers. (Sure, I know I can do analog transfers. But, that defeats the whole purpose of doing digital recording.) But now, as I'm scrambling to find software for it, I am having MAJOR second thoughts about using it. And, I'm VERY seriously considering taking it back and getting my money back before my "grace period" runs out. If I can't do digital transfers of ***MY*** audio (for which I would, as I understand it, hold any copyrights to), then this has been a waste of money and time to me. Also, before you reply by saying, "you can get the software from Sony," please know that I've already contacted them. Could someone PLEASE provide some feedback to the above. Also, can anyone answer the following questions: 1. Is the highest quality recording mode "SP"? 2. Do all Sony and non-Sony portable MD's suffer from what I would call super-silly, restrictive copy-protect schemes? 3. If I went with a non-Sony brand, would I run into the same problem(s)? (Please remember that my motherboard has optical IN and OUT jacks.) 4. Can anyone recommend good-quality, non-Sony portable MD recorder(s) that would do what I want to do? 5. Has anyone written a piece of code that will digitally transfer, over the N707's USB port, the audio data on a MD? If so, ****PLEASE**** provide a link to that program!! 6. Does the OpenMG software allow the MD to PC transfer of SP mode audio, over the USB port? 7. Would this product... http://www.edirol.com/products/info/ua1d.html allow me to convert from USB on the MD to optical? (Would any of the products at: http://www.edirol.com allow for USB to digital transfer?) Comments/suggestions are welcome. Thanks very much in advance.
