  1. With most of the "big name" HDD DAP's out at the moment, you have a choice of recording in WAV format, or even FLAC and other lossless compressions. Also, DAP's usually have a much more powerful amp than most MD's. The bottom line is, MiniDisc is lossy - even in realtime (SP) but with a DAP you have the option to go lossless or uncompressed. Therefore, I don't think you can count far superior sound quality at all... Also, the replacable/external media is not a plus for some people, I know for a fact some people would prefer to have all their music on one small device than having a bunch of discs they have to shift through to find the one they want to listen to. Don't get me wrong, I love the MiniDisc format and all, but I cannot agree with that statement.
  2. The DR7 is a great unit for live recording and you do not need to use the remote, as the recording functions can be activated via the unit itself. Unless you need to record more than 80 Mins in SP, 160 Mins in LP2 and 320 Mins in LP4, and if you don't mind uploading to your PC in real-time, then the DR7 should suit you fine.
  3. If NetMD is no concern, then Mystylers suggestion of the Sharp MD-DR7 would make a great unit for you. The unit itself is small, very robust and will sound miles ahead of your R90 due to Sharps signature 1-Bit Digital Amp. You really can't go wrong with the DR7... it's a pretty much perfect MD Recorder.
  4. If you're going to be feeding the MD into an RCA input I found the Profigold PGA3402 to be pretty good and it can be had for as little as £10 - £15. Alternativly you can pick up a Mini > RCA adapter for $5 and then use any RCA cables you want. The mini to rca adapter can be bought here: ]http://www.headphone.com/layout.php?topicI...060260005
  5. Sony RM-MC33EL Universal MD/CD remote http://www.audiocubes.com/product_info.php...e928cdc060398c3 The 33EL is fine for use with the N-510, and has the added bonus of being backlit!
  6. This problem is quite common in MZ-N505's, I know several people that have experianced this after time. It *could* be due to dust build up, in which case a good idea would be to grab a can of compressed air and try blowing it around the buttons. The reason I suggest this fix is because I know of a similar case in which it's fixed the same problem on an MD-DR7, however the problem may be down to the actual firmware. If that fails, you can try opening it (providing the warranty has expired anyway) and try giving it all a clean, getting rid of the dust etc. around the buttons. If this doesn't work, I doubt it's worth getting it repaired by Sony as you could probably pick up a higher model on eBay for the same amount as the repair costs. Good luck!
  7. Wow, nice skin Kurisu! I really like it, very easy on the eyes. The new logo is pretty nice too
  8. Sharp's portable MD's are renowned for their superior live recording quality  If NetMD is of no intrest to you, and live recording is a feature that is important, you really can't go wrong with a Sharp MD-DR7.
  9. The EX71's are not very sensitive, and thus you will probably get an even lower volume with the EX71's than with the stocks (this was the case when I had my MZ-N10 + EX71's) If you want to try and compensate for the poor output, you could try either building/buying a portable headphone amp, or buy some sensitive cans like the Sennheiser PX100's for example.
  10. Congrats! An excellent choice! The DR-420 is a very impressive unit for the price, and blows away any of the low-end Sony's into oblivion. Last weekend I actually tried one out in Richer Sounds and I couldn't believe how Sharp have managed to get the price down to compete with the entry-level units, it's remarkable value for money. I didn't get to listen to it, but if it's anything like my DS8 then it'll be worth every penny. It has very solid build quality, the buttons are very nice to touch and the unit is very small considering it's an entry-level unit. I think you will be very suprised as to how the unit looks in real life as opposed to the pic's released by Sharp - it is actually very nice in the flesh and the pic's don't do it justice at all. Auvi 1-Bit Digital Amp, NetMD, solid construction, nice button layout and small design, all for £110, you can't go wrong! My only very small gripe with it was that the next model down (The DR-410) actually looks nicer in real life than the DR-420 (chrome navigation buttons, slightly different volume buttons and design around the display) but that really is just a minor hitch and the DR-420 still looks very nice. Be sure to let us know what you think of it when it arrives!
  11. Well; It's slimmer (worlds slimmest portable MD recorder) It's lighter (worlds lightest portable MD recorder) It's a special 10th anniversary unit It has an internal Li-ion battery (no more having to discharge the battery before recharging, as Li-ion has no memory effect) It has a 360 rotating jog-dial It has a backlit remote It has a joystick-type navigation button It has a magnesium shell
  12. I'm 16, got my first MD back in '97
