Some Sony Hi-MD units delayed in US till late July.

Maybe listening to initial consumer reaction, Sony is re-doing the firmware to support native MP3 playback. (dreaming on...) Seriously, if Hi-MD units have direct mp3 playback (without transcoding or messy software), I'll order one today.
