My US NH1 is Made in Japan too.
-
I live in US and bought US version $284.88 + $4.95 UPS shipping at www.jr.com. (Is there any rule for saying real price and retailer? Then I'll remove the price and retailer names) The cheapest Japanese I found in US was $429 + $29 shipping to US from HyperJack. US version is lot cheaper then I purchased the US. There is no big difference between Japanes and US version. I have US version and tried to change it to Japanese version for titling matter, but I couldn't. I now have no problem to input Japanese and Kanji, not 100% perfect though- I can't input some Katakana and Kanji but ok, with SonicStage. Downside is that I can't edit the Japanese titles with NH1 remote. Why you'd like to change Japanese to US? You may need some utility to access to the NH1 service mode. I haven't found the utility anywhere.

N10 works with NH1 USB cable; that is, the USB connectors of both units may be identical. I think of using N10 cradle to charge NH1 while up/downloding music since N10 cradle has USB port. Is it possible?

Thank you LateXXX and Classicalgas.

Thank you Qwakrz.

I have question about USB connection of my MZ-NH1. If I want to change minidisc while using SonicStage, I should disconnect USB connection first before changing the disc?

I have similar problem. I used Simple Burner to make HiMD HiSP mode and then tried to transfer the song from HiMD to hard drive with SonicStage. I have the exact same error message, "The selected tracks originated from another computer" Of course I have only one pc and I've used the one system to do. My OS is Windows XP SP1. SonicStage is 2.3 and Simple Burner is 2.0. What's wrong? Another problem is I can't get transferred file from HiMD. I transferred a song from CD to HiMD (HiSP) with SonicStage (SS) 2.3 and tried to copy the song from HiMD to hard drive (My Library) with SS 2.3. After I hit transfer button, the song has gone from the HiMD and also not shown on My Library. Where is it?

Thank you. I couldn't get catch the sonic difference either. Well, I tested - PCM in HiMD mode - Hi-SP in HiMD mode - SP in MD mode Recording via optical digital for SP in MD mode and PCM in HiMD. For HiSP, I used SonicStage 2.2. Media is SONY ES. Maybe my ears aren't that sensitive. Anyway I couldn't notice any big difference. What you think of?

I just got MZ-NH1, jumping from MZ-RXX series (non-NetMD) to HiMD era. I installed all software, Simple Burner and SonicStage. Both can trasnfer music files to HiMD-I do only in Hi-SP mode. Is there any sound quality differences between Simple Buner and SonicStage? Transfered HiSP is real HiSP? I'm just curious since NetMD SP is not real SP if the file transfered by USB cable. Same rule applied to HiSP? Thanks.

Sorry, no luck. I've been keep watching eBay.co.uk. I missed one. Another one is on the auction now, but he said he wouldn't ship to US. I heard from a person who bought JB980 from British e-tailer, www.techtronics.com, but I can't get into the the online vendor pages. I may consider buying JE780 instead of JB980. The lowest JE780 price I found is $429 + $29 (shipping) = $458

The best way is finding MD duplicate service bureau. They have duplicate machines like http://www.minidisc.org/part_Denon_DN-045R.html. The machines bypass decoding and encoding; that is, you can have 100% perfect duplicate. If you use two MD recording decks and then connect digitally, that's in real time and also there should be decoding, when playing, and encoding, when recording. Encoding again means re-copmressing the original. I don't think there's any big sonic difference, between the original and copy, audible by human ears though. Third option is using your MD player and PC. If you have a MD deck that has digital out (optical or co-ax), it's much better than using analog out. Digital out of MD recorder or player -> PC sound card digital in or Analog out of MD recorder or player -> PC sound card digital in Recording the MD sound with PC recording software. MD to PC uploading is only available for HiMD media contents.

I'm looking for mint SONY MDS-JB980. I'm in Chicago, IL, USA. The new unit is sold at GBP 207.88 with free UK domestic shipping by UK Amazon, but UK Amazon doesn't ship internationally. Anyone knows who carries this model in US? Or anyone can buy and ship to US?
-
Do you know where I can buy SONY MDS-JB980? It has only 220-240V UK standart plug, but I don't mind to use step-up transformer in US.

Hi tmeg, Can you add the feature of music transfer from PC to NetMD in real SP mode? If I transfer songs from PC to MD, they are once converted tp LP2 and then written as SP on the disc (MD). Anyone else has found utilities have that feature? Thanks.

mrsoul, According to minidisc.org HiMD faq, http://www.minidisc.org/hi-md_faq.html#_q93, HiMD doesn't support SP recording. But you say it does. What is ture? Another question is HiMD recorder can transfer (aka download) form PC in SP mode? It doesn't convert LP and then record as SP? NetMD can download SP from PC, but internally PC converts once to LP and then re-convert to SP to minidisc.

Japanese domestic version can display both Japanese and English on the LCD, but US version md recorders/players do only display English. Is it possible to change some specific settings on US version, then I can input Japanese characters on US MZ-NH1 or other MD recorders?
-
me, thanks for your input. BTW , I'm in the United States and have no chance to trip to Japan. Yodobashi and most Japanese retailers don't ship to US. I know several vendors to sell MZ-NH1 as 31,800 yen-it's lower than Yodobashi's. 31,800 yen = US$310. See it at http://esearch.rakuten.co.jp/rms/sd/esearc...item=mz-nh1&x=0

Maybe USA version and Japanese version have the same MSRP but real market prices in the Unites States are different. Here's the difference. SONY MZ-NH1 Japanese Domestic Version The second price is the shipping charge to USA www.japan-direct.com $471 + $41.94 = $512.94 www.audiocubes.com $479 + $15 = $494.00 www.t-station.net (from Hyper Jack, Japan) $459 + $24 = $483 SONY MZ-NH1 USA Version The second price is the US domestic shipping charge www.computers4sure.com $315.95 + $ free shipping - $20 off = $295.95 www.compuplus.com $299 + $14.95 = $313.95 Oops! Computers4sure doesn't have stock now. Yesterday there were 19 units in stock.

I'm wondering I post again the same topic. I searched, I couldn't find exact topic I post. What are the differences between Japanese and USA MZ-NH1? I know the bundled software is different, Japanese and US Eng. US MZ-NH1 can show and write Japanese characters? What else do you know? US version is $300ish and Japanese is still far higher, $450ish. I'm considering buying US version. However I would like to know the differences. Thanks.

One more thing: You should check the PC Play Control volume of the sources whenever you restart the system. In my case, I mute the all sources except WAVE/MP3 and reboot then some sources are unmuted. The track marking tricks I mentioned above is ONLY working when only one source is UNMUTED. I guess the unmuted sources send noise to keep my MZ-R900 away from track marking. When recording from MP3, only unmute Wave/MP3. When recording from CD, only unmute CD. If some audio track of CD or some MP3 files have long silent end, then MZ-R900 may add double track marks. The first one is right after the song and the next one is made by Winamp Pause plugin. In the case, you can erase the silent 3-5 sec track without hassle later. Play the track (silent track) and pause it. Press left jog dial and set edit > erase. Any other good way to record with MZ-R900, please post.

I have MZ-R900 and SB Live! 5.1 Platinum sound card. I've experienced the no track mark problems while recording from the sound card with optical digital connection to R900. What I've found is Creative MiniDisc Center works good to add proper track marks right after each track. However my PC crashes sometimes if I use MiniDisc Center. (I'm using Windows XP Professional SP1) I tried many kind of pause plugins for Winamp. No success. I found if there's no sound comes from the sound card then R900 adds track marks automatically. I test all sound volumes down to 0 while recording, then R900 adds track mark. I looked for some plugins control Winamp that way. I couldn't find any. Sorry for long story. Here's the one way I do now-this works great. Open PC volume control and mute all except the source you want to record. If you want to record from CD, then unmute the CD only (of course main vol. control is NOT muted). If you want to record MP3 files with Winamp, you should unmute WAVe/MP3 vol. control-mute other sources. Download Pause Between Songs 2.3 Winamp plugin http://biphome.spray.se/urbansan/gen_paus/ Install it and set 3 sec.-less than 3 sec not worked for me. Set R900 synch OFF. Connect optical cable from sound card optical out to R900 opt. in. Play your files with Winamp. That's it. You may want to control Rec volume or PC volume. I ususally set all volumes up to 100% of PC vol. control and Winamp volume at 88%. I set R900 recording volume to AUTO. Audio level meter moves upto 7 unit on R900 display, but no clipping so far since I normalize all MP3 files with MP3Gain ( I set 96dB), http://www.geocities.com/mp3gain/ Good luck.
