No problem. I'm sure I can figure out few more things to add to the FAQ, just give me few more days or so to think of them (I'll get around to doing the 2nd generation stuff later on today or tomorrow).

From the known quantities, both RH10 and RH910 sounds like Gumstick powered units (30 hour range), and given that assumption (I can be utterly off on this), I won't be getting either RH10 or RH910. Why? Quite simply, the size of NH1 makes the NH910 feels like a piece of brick. Going by that assumption, both the RH10 or the 910 would be fairly thick (as the NH900)... Oddly enough, my D-NE1 is about as thick as my NH1, and it uses two gumsticks.... Hmm, I wonder if they managed to shrink the size of the RH10? It should be noted though, the D-NE1 has no onboard LCD. Given that, I'm willing to see what'd be the replacement for the NH1 unit, and go from there. I'm hoping and betting that RH10 won't be the end all be all replacement unit for NH1... If I'm wrong though, it'll be a happy mistake nonetheless.

Was that particular helicopter's cabin pressurized? Passenger airplanes, normally, wouldn't be a problem since its cabin is fully pressurized, so you don't see laptops, iPods, and other things falling dead (not to mention it needs pressurizing since it flies around 30,000ft).

Dogma 7 is now in play. Don't forget, ATRAC sucks, and therefore, everything even remotely associated with ATRAC must suck by extension. There are no if, ands, or buts. Whenever Dogma 7 is in play, no facts may be used to obscure arguments. No defending of ATRAC may be used to obscure arguments. All opinions about iPods (positive ones only) will be taken as fact, and is fact for iPods. There will be no mention of MP3 playbacks for new HiMDs, as we all know, MDs can't play MP3, you silly billy. No other HD-DAPs will be recognized, since they are not iPod nor white (though minis are the obvious exception, along with iShuffles). No defending of other DAPs may be used to obscure the arguments. Dogma 7 is now in play. All kneel before General Jobs!

Wolf's Rain OST. Amazing tracks.

Trust me, the ejoomakashun system here is no more corrupt nor honorable than the ones in Mexico, Europe, Russia, Japan, or Madagascar. This is coming from having learned in two countries (well, one in elementary schooling). Problem with the US education is because of outside (re: Parental) meddling. See the whole issue about Evolution/Creationism to see what I mean. Parents here are way too uptight. God forbid should kids learn about scientific facts! God forbid that teachers actually do their job! Can't have that now can we! Discipline? Bah! You even remotely try to discipline our kids, you're in trouble! No wonder teachers are packing heat and flak vests, you'd think Iraq was safer than some of our schools... While we're at it, let's complain to the FCC when out kids are even remotely threatened by something as innocent as a part of a human body. You'd think the parents here in US never heard of this amazing invention called the Remote control, or the V-Chip... And if you think I'm right, I also have a nice property in Brooklyn for sale, some bridge or rather. All issues aside, while the primary system of education blows, the secondary system (particulary the tradtional 4 year university system) does a good job of it, pretty much all over the world. Here, you have the opportunity to learn things that you were never privy to in primary schools. For instance, you have wider access to literature, political discussions, philosophical musings, etc. You have the ability to (or not to) discuss your opinions on various items. You have the ability not only to learn (as you do in primary education), but also to question (more so than you're afforded to in High school, or Jr. High) it, if you so choose. And there in lies the crux of the education system: will you question what you are told, or will you just accept it? Is the goal of the education system to instill the values of education (to keep on learning, to keep on questioning things) or otherwise? There in lies the answer.

1) If you can find it under the MSRP of $200, then yes. Sams Club has the unit, 5 normal MD blanks, and an armstrap for $130. The US 600D is download only and has only USB port. The Canadien/European/World model has a line-in, handy for recording from Radio or anywhere else, these are denoted by the lack of the trailing D, and should be easily obtained on the net. 2) It normally won't skip when left alone. However, under heavy physical motion with lots of tracks, it has been known to skip a bit when you're playing the disc in shuffle mode. There are also batches of disc suspected to be somewhat... suspect during transfers. Whether or not it's a small batch or two or a wide spread problem is unknown. I've ran into this when transferring a large number of files in one sitting along with others (read some older posts and you'll see).

Best $15 I've spent this month, the Sony AIR Clip-ons, MDR-Q55SL (the local target had the AIR variety) for only measly $15. For $15, I'd say these phones are definately worth their money, as long as you can get a good fit and seal on these. However, I'd probably think twice about spending full price on these. At this rate, I plan to get couple of these to give as gifts, makes a nice entry set of headphones, I'd wager. Nice and stylish, and sound quality that's pretty decent for the money. So, what's your best impulse buy in phones? Mine happen to be $40 Techincs RP-DJ1200 (the best phones $40 could buy, they retailed for $120 at one point). Or, barring that you have no good discoveries to share, what's the worst impulse buy (does it have anything to do with PHILIPS?) that you've had to date? Yea, I'm in a mood for some silly dilly topics like this today.

1) Give these guys a try, a Google search found that they may carry parts for MDR-CD6, though availbility is questionable (I personally don't think they have them, but they do list the part numbers, and that might be a good place to start, if you want to try your hand at reparing your CD6). 2) MDR-V6 or MDR-V7509 could very well be the replacement model for the CD6. The V6/V9 (7506/7509) are the current line of studio monitor phones and carries the same tacky "for DIGITAL" and has similar characteristics of revealing every detail and nuances of a recording. For your reference, V6 specs: Type: Circum Aural, Closed Driver: 40mm Dynamic Imp.: 63ohms @ 1kHz Sensitivity: 106dB/mW Rated Power; 500mW Power Handling Capacity: 1W Freq. Response: 5-30000Hz I'd suspect that the CD6 has been since supplanted by the V6 and V7509.

Funny you should mention that. I took a peek at a newer E-Machine at the office, and I think they use off the shelf parts pretty much. Of course, the OS has been reinstalled, as the software that comes preinstalled in the machine causes a lot of headaches to begin with. Seriously, by the time these computers escapes from the factory, they're confused and mixed up as they come. Also, those who builds their own tends to be more knowledgable about these things, spyware protection, and what not. Funny thing, used to be the propritary machines from Compaq and such were regarded as best of class. Never had any problems with the machine either, until I accidentally FDISK'd the Hard Disk, but that was at least 10-12 years ago, when I didn't know better.

I would bombs away, except I went shopping for storage boxes after catching bits and pieces of Paul McCartney does the Beatles (Fun for the whole family) Half Time show. Bleh, bring U2 back. I still have it on TiVo, and I will review the game and the commercials, but nothing really outstanding unfortunately. Ho Hum. The simpsons that came right after it was fun though.

Hmmm, the Patriots are not playing their game, way too much penalties. On the other hand, McNabb's made some bad throws earlier, but he looks good. Still early though. Crummy Commercials though.

D'oh! I feel for you man, I feel for you. Well, Eagles are going to suck it up it looks like though. This early in the game too no less.

Damage predicts, with his uber cute silkworm, 27-24, New England Patriots of Boston over Philadelphia Eagles of Pennsylvania in a very tight one, Adam Vinetieri kicks it in for the winning FG. Predict away, I think I'll take a superior sleep of daytime. (Illegal use of running gag, 5 yards penalty, repeat the down)

I have Motorola V300. It stinks to high hell. I may never use another Motorola so long as I live. I miss my Sidekick.

Hmm, it's fairly convincing to me, at least with the V6s. But it's more of a stereo separation with a bit of "Z-axis action" (height) than anything else. There isn't all that smooth Left to Right transition and very little depth in the sample I tried. Neat trick nonetheless. Unsurprisingly (or not), it sounds very flat if you're using any sort of spatialzation routine with your speakers or headphones vs. normal "flat" stereo when playing back said files. In a strange and related note, using VPF (Studio) settings on one of my cans with very little soundstage imaging really helps the final result. So much so that I can literally imagine where the singer is, where each instruments are and such...

Not a problem with me, I've been swamped with work recently and haven't had time to work on this as much as I wanted to. I wonder if it'd be a good idea to add in the general technical support question as well in the FAQ while we're at it (I just got this idea from dex's post in Tech Support Thread)?

Re: MP2, Unless I'm mistaken, and I probably am, (it's either or) I think it was to be used in concert with Video CD, and as such, I believe it has one "fixed" bitrate to be used. Or, I tend to recall this from soething I read about a while back. At any rate, I remember seeing and attempting to encode my own on a P100 (with 64Megs of EDO RAM and 4GB HD, that machine was one thousand three hundred thirty seven back in the day) and that process taking well over several hours. Using Win95's media player (and that capped at AM quality rendering out of my ignorance), I was rather impressed at AM rendered MP2/3 files, then find my surprise when I actually tried Winamp 0.9 or such. But the whole MP3 thing came about into prominence around the same time as World Wide Web and such. The WWW was a great portale for finding random MP3s, then followed up by Napster. It's the confluence of these technologies that gave MP3 the staying power that it has even to this day.

You forget: ATRAC wasn't originally designed with Battery Life in mind, but real time digital recording (along with DAT's PASC, which is now MP2 audio). It's only recently (Last two or three generation players) that Sony has looked into improving battery life. However, much of that, seemingly, comes from the cheaper and weaker AMP along with DSP improvements. I'd say, overall, ATRAC's advantage came from real time digital recording first.

As a side note, the MacMini only comes with one, count 'em, one Slot for RAM, so upgrading the RAM will be an expensive proposition. And no matter what Jobs says, impresses, orders, or beckons you to believe, 256MB on a modern operating system makes baby Jebus cry. Remember that!

RM-MC33EL is the default pack in stick remote. Don't bother with the RM-MC40EL with this model, it won't take advantage of the scroll wheel or the 3 line display (text displays in one line only). The current RM-MC3X model is 38EL. It is the default pack in with US MZ-NH900. The newer stick remote that comes with the D-NEX2X line of PCDP will work as well as the RM-MC33EL, I'd wager.

Paranoia 1. What is SCMS? Quoted from Wikipedia.com: The Serial Copy Management System or SCMS was created in response to the digital audio tape (DAT) invention, in order to prevent DAT recorders from making second-generation or serial copies. SCMS sets a "copy" bit in all copies, which prevents anyone from making further copies of those first copies. It does not, however, limit the number of first-generation copies made from a master. The entire article can be found here 1a. What is SCMS Stripper*? SCMS Stripper essentially removes the SCMS bit discussed earlier, so copies of copies can be made without any limitations. (Add units here) 2. What is DMCA and why are some of the topics here potentially illegal to read and to discuss in the US*? Quoted from Wikipedia.com: The Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) is a controversial United States copyright law which criminalizes production and dissemination of technology that can circumvent measures taken to protect copyright, not merely infringement of copyright itself, and heightens the penalties for copyright infringement on the Internet. Passed on May 14, 1998 by a unanimous vote in the United States Senate and signed into law by President Bill Clinton on October 28, 1998, the DMCA amended title 17 of the US Code to extend the reach of copyright, while limiting the liability of Online Providers from copyright infringement by their users. The entire article can be found here. In particular, discussing actual methods to bypass Digital Rights Management features, such as CSS on DVD Video discs, or SCMS on MDs and DATS, is illegal under DMCA. While discussing ways to circumvent such DRM features without outlining actual methods seems to be somewhat legal, questions that may be in danger of DMCA in the HiMD FAQ has been noted with an asterisk. Note that those of us in the European Union (EU) has a similar law in effect, but termed "on steroids." 3. Can I download SonicStage without Connect.com components? 4. Does SonicStage "phone" home like Windows Media Player? Unless you connect to Connect.com, and or use CDDB services, it seemingly does not phone home like Windows Media Player. CDDB servers connect to Gracenote's servers, and Connect Music Stores connect to Connect servers (owned by Sony). You should download the non-Connect version of SonicStage if you are particularly paranoid about such things, or set your firewall settings accordingly.

I don't think I have the body for it. Not that I'd look good in any lingerie, per se. Get your mind out of the gutter! I think this applies for a lot of the forums on the intarweb, no?

I will forward you to this thread, and all of your questions should be answered. Keep in mind that this is as of yet unorganized (ie in order) and not all of the questions answered. This, however, is a good place to start.
