  1. Have I lost my mind or is there a sudden dearth of Hi-MD blanks?!? Oh sweet heavens, please say it isn't so!!!! Anyone have any idea/news?
  2. I have exactly the same problem! I use a 600D, a RH10 and recently RH1 and now anything that was previously in my SS database won't transfer to ANYTHING. WHile I have all of this on CD, it's a pain thinking that I can't use thes and have to waste days (yup, I have a lot of music) creating a new database... has anyone solved this yet? I've gone through the steps, uninstall, etc. (am using 4.2 now) and the only tracks that work are recent imports. Any luck out there?
  3. Count me in! Hi-SP or SP for me... international is good as well.. prefer acoustic/classical/folk/rock... but please, no celine dion!! hahaha Wonderful fun!
  4. Have you tried budgetbatteries.com? I don't know if they will ship to where you are, but gumstick batteries were 5.50 US... a _whole_ lot cheaper, and they seem to be good quality...!
  5. Thanks for the pics! They are a lot better than what I imagined them to be... but am wondering how it turns out with a flash? I also didn't see this covered anywhere else, but does this have to be plugged into the cradle to do music/photo transfers back to the computer? Would be a shame if I had to lug that around with a laptop if I wanted to do some editing... Thanks again! flat_earth Clicky goodness for my upcoming new website! Long live MD! (MD goodness still forthcoming...)
  6. Hmm... I don't think the article means that it was 'bad' as much as 'punished', and I have to agree completely. I am absolutely thrilled that they are still developing for the technology and I still hold out hope that this trend will continue, but I'm really really sad that it has taken sooooooooooooo long for this to happen. Seem like all this stuff was really available a long time ago, but only desperation has brought these upgrades. But I'll still be buying one of the MD cams for my dad... he's gonna freak
  7. Am I missing something here, or will all the discs that I've recorded in Hi-MD at 133/lp2 not play in this unit?? Would be a shame, but I still can't wait to get my hands on some sort of home stereo unit for Hi-MD!! Seems like it's been forever in coming... Does anyone know if Sony is planning one with the launch of their new portables as well? Here's to the future my friends....
  8. Okie dokie, here's what happened: Not sure if I jumped too many options here, but this worked for me. I went home and got the same error as soon as I put the 1gb disc into the 600. Without plugging it into the USB, I went through the navi/menu selections and tried to reset it to Hi-MD. When I pressed play/enter, it still popped up with an error and refused to do anything. I went through the options again and this time I turned OFF the disc memory setting, ejected the disc and also (for some reason I'm not sure...desperation?) CLOSED the write tab on the disc to write protected. When I put the disc back into the player, it asked me if I wanted to format yes/no (i'd never seen this option before) and viola! It re-wrote the TOC. The disk is blank, of course, but I'm ecstatic to have it back. Just tested a transfer to fill the entire disc and it worked flawlessly! Thanks a million everyone and I hope that if anyone else gets a trashed disc from SS that this works for them too!! jojo
  9. Uhm... maybe I missed it, but I was just scrolling through the options on the unit and I didn't see any for formatting the disc in the menus. The manual said that there's the option of recording in md/hi-md for standard discs, but only hi-md for 1gb discs. Did I miss this option on the 600, or is it not there? Thanks!
  10. Thanks for the suggestions... I'll try reformating from the unit when I get home in a few hours, and I'm not worried about losing the music on the disc since it's still in SS. The one thing I'm worried about is that the unit goes straight to saying 'format error' as soon as I put the disk in, and I can't even get windows to recognize there's a disc in the unit, so formating thru XP is a no go. Thanks again, and will scribble back after I've tried to see if the unit itself will let me reformat the 1gb disc. :wacky:
  11. After replacing my 600 with a new one (and a service plan!!) I started moving tracks saved from SS 2.2 onto a 1GB disc. However, as it was writing the files, SS crashed (of course) and now the disc is totally unreadable!!! I've tried going in after a reboot to initialize the disc, but the 600 unit won't even recognize it and of course the software wofn't react. Even windows says there is no disc in the unit. What can I do to remake the TOC on this disc and try to get it back? The unit just says there's a format error and I can't find a way to fix it! Thanks a bunch guys!! jojo
  12. Howdy all... wondering if this has happened to anyone else. I've been the proud owner (yup, I've come to love it and use it over my other MD portables - mzn707 and msf 610 - )of the new HiMD600 unit but for some reason my LCD screen gave up the ghost. It still plays, but as you might guess, with 16+hours of music on a disc, it is next to useless for searching for tunes when i'm on the road. Has this happened to anyone else? Gotten a fix or know how to fix it? Of course, no service plan was offered when I purchased this. :wacky: Thanks for any stories or info! flat earth
  13. Ack! I found the backup tool and had been using two different computers to create an omg library, but no matter what configuration I reinstall the backed up files, it won't read anything other than the most recent folder! I've tried copying the files to other folders within the main library folder, I've done the other backups to these folders, copied the files, but it still will either empty the album folders or just won't let me import the already encoded omg songs!! Does anyone know how to fix this, or is this just another example of Sony wasting my time?? I'd so wanted to love Hi MD and start a library of songs, but this is ridiculous... I don't want to waste another 6-10 hours recopying these cd's.... Thanks a mil!! Flat E
