  1. make sure that the back up utility is used, the SS files are encrypted for that particular installation, not even that system. sony aren't big on sharing remember
  2. aux jack [3.5mm or rca] > tape adapter > itrip or similar fm transmitter i just bought an itrip for my civic, the cd player is curently nonfunctional & i had a road trip to make. pro. reasonable sound from lp2 discs, provided you can find empty band. very light, easy to use - no on button, just plug it in & sound comes through. uses easily replacable AAAs & gives 70 odd hours from two con. can suffer from radio bleedthrough when on the cusp of a channel. if you are travelling long distances you may need to change broadcast stations occasionally. all in all its as good as any clear fm station is.
  3. you could do it that way, the line out would provide a better signal.
  4. how about the peircing? they cool with alternative lifestylez? just kidding there but do you think age comes into it at all?
  5. i think you'll find it's not that they don't want anyone to use the format, but that they want fees for the licence. note that real were desperate for anyone to use realplayer & actually shelled out. pretty crappy tho not unusually insular marketing decision bu sony
  6. line out on the himd -> line in on pc record via audacity http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ save it as a wav.
  7. http://www.oregonlive.com/news/oregonian/i...47471277751.xml why not malaysia? have a look at why kenwood moved offshore manufacturing back to japan.
  8. wondered when you'd rock up zero, it's nice to have my melbourne wingman around
  9. have a look at the faqs on the main page www.minidisc.org they should help you through most of the R vs S questions
  10. sex. although watching guys hit on camille is always fun - right? i'm all for the subscription package but i think chris might be a communist, doesn't like a capitalist elite aparently
  11. i'm using firefox on most of my pcs - the reason i'm allways on these md boards is a wifi network with 3 pcs & 2 notebooks. if i'm awake there's a computer next to me - anyway i'm holding off comtting fully to mozilla until i see the google suite, i love the toolbar & blogger so it's highly anticipated in my head anyway
  12. tbh if it's from a cd player i'd use the optical option or via the PC. likewise when i record a vinyl record my chain i sthus turntable -> preamp[mixer] -> pc using soundforge 7.0 [coverted to wav & tagged] -> sonicstage to md -> [back up] wav burned to cd you could also use GNUfreeware like audacity. this gives you the option of cleaning up scratches & pops if you like & normalising
  13. hey all just got a new laptop, benq joybook 6000n but there's no 'productivity software' [wanky euphemism] i have a grey-area copy of office 2000 [old oem disk, installed it on a few systems] & have been looking at open office. looks fantastic, gnu stuff is usually really inivative untill they sell out & it's cross platform, linux, osx & xp supported. anyone have any comments, alternate sugestions or quibbles about this choice? related links www.openoffice.org http://reviews.zdnet.co.uk/software/produc...39117219,00.htm
  14. try using line in rather than mic in stereo mini = 3.5 mm or 1/8 inch jack =|=|==> looks like this right? if it has one line it's mono

    USB Link Bridge

i'm pretty sure sxc has one. perhaps he can answer some of these questions
  16. if you have the hard disk space & the time i'd advise recording to a pc via a program like audacity or soundforge & saving as wav files. they can then be converted to the himd & also recorded on the cd as a backup.
  17. i was. justchanged the email in my profile. it's not like anyone only has one eamil address these days...
  18. yeah i'd factor that figure up a little higher but i'll keep reading it. i also think the mod team are only interested in patroling the playground & not at all in keeping up to date ... one root of the 'fun' rather than informed attitude of the place but hey i hit 1000 over there without noticing - can't be entirely bad
  19. i am familiar with the thread. what i'm saying is you'll probably like the nh1 as you like the atrac flavoured sound, aren't so keen on ipods overall & actually ordered the NH1. it's all about what you do with it - do you use higher end headphones? will you be recording with this away from a computer? do/will you own more than 8 gigs of music? do you like having all your music together or on removable discs? ask yourself the questions & you'll know which one you don't want anyway. btw there are a few positive NH1 reviews around too.
  20. it's not really a minidisc or even portable audio board tho camille. the off topic [&habit] is the only reason i go there
  21. if you own a pc then you could buy a cheap/second hand net md from ebay and title on a proper qwerty keyboard. look at an old n505, 707, n1, 710 410 etc
  22. 292 vs 256 bitrates aren't everything 192 is alledged to be cd-transparent remember. codecs have different ways of compressing the data & atrac3+ is not the same thing as atrac3
  23. do you like it though? just 'cause bhangra is a little down on it, don't let it effect your usage unless it really gets to you ***edit*** sorry misread your question. are you a serious audiophile? have you put time in with an ipod down at your local electronics store?. i'd be inclined to go with the nh1 for the removable media, recording options & batt life [not a significant as before tho]. if you are having buyers remorse before the ourchase maybe you need to do more research
  24. take a look at the names of the files the installer streams & look for them in your temp folders. pack them & the installer up
  25. euro delivered n710s have a crippled amp that is significantly weaker than standard. this means some headphones may have problems being driven by it. aeiryn knows far more than me so i'll leave the rest to her
