Why is that? I didnt think from what ive read there were any big changes as far as the core software. its to late now as ive erased the disc. thanks anyway Dave

I recorded my bands gig on NYE and was done as 2 seperate files (set1, set2). for the second set the recorder (900) had been moved so i got quite a few dropouts in the sound. when i tried to upload via SS2.2 it wont go past the first gap (about 3.3mins) it just reports an error and stops uploading. If i try to just play the track and drag the slder past the gap it plays till the next gap then goes back to the sart. The first track uploaded fine and the MD unit plays them fine. Any ideas? I ended up having to use Totalrecorder to capture the second track. Dave.

must be the time of year. after having MD for years and no accidents i droped my 900 on Tuesday. all seems ok. Dave.
-
Mine remembers its level setting as well although it seems to revert back to a default setting if you change battery or disc. Im sure my MZ-N1 did this also. Shame it wont remember that it was in manual mode though. Dave.

I agree with Kurisu about the portability of MD over DAT . I have both and although my DAT recorder is small (fits into jacket pocket) MD is much more versitile (now). Dave.
-
Yes but not 2hours of it without copy restrictions like MD has. I know there is a resriction on doing digital to digital but you can upload it to as many pc's as you want. Dave.
-
The Anti shock is only for playback as far as i know so if the unit is jogged while recording you will get drop outs. Could be the disc is faulty. Dave.
-
I was refering to the fact that DAT is not compressed like MD so if you want to record via mic or line in DAT will give better results. Dave.
-
I have had this with my net md when i was recording my bands rehearsals via mic. it seems we were vibrating the table the md unit was on causing dropouts in the recording. i now put it on my coat and all is well. As the 900 doesnt display playback levels do you know that its droping out in the same place each time. Sorry if this is not relevent to you Dave.

I think if Sony didnt protect analog recordings as well then whats to stop us making one from a cd and copying many times. With the one pc transfer once you have done this you can then convert to .wav and make more copies anyway. people will alway find ways to get what they want out of things and Sony has a right to try to stop them. Why not get a DAT recorder if quality is important ? Analog recordings can be just as good as digital to a lot of people. I think all things have limitations and you have to find ways of working with or around them.

Rowan, if your recording via the mic the the damage is alread done, after all the mic is analog. if you use the hi-md render program that marcnet has created you can turn your .omg file into .wav files, clean them up and then do what ever you want with them. you will end up with a better recording than just transfering them via SS2 as the mic will have created hiss and distortion already. again i do see your point though. Dave.

Agreed that you should own the music you wish to copy What do you mean by md makes more sense.? An ipod with 20gb is more compact than md recorder with 20x1gb discs.and i have found track access to be quicker, certainly if you have to change discs. Dave.

Rowen, i use mine the same. my gigs and rehearsals . how is sony stoping you from copying your own songs? once its on your pc you can convert it to .wav and copy or burn as many times as you want. If you need to copy to another pc then you just copy the tracks to the md as data. granted you need other software but i think we need to realise why MD has been created and that if musicians are going to use it this way ie mic or line input then it is not upto pro standard anyway so we cant really expect to do what you can with DAT.. what im saying is copy protection has to be there for the many (yes many and im one of them) who copy tracks rather than buy them If you own the material in the first place surley it wouldnt be in mp3 format. But this is just my view and i know there are exceptions. Dave.

I cant help feeling people are moaning because Sony and others are trying to stop us doing something we are not supposed to do. We might as well just walk into HMV and take what ever we want. there is always a way round the copy protection but this doesnt make it ok. its still ilegal As for MD overtaking ipod. if you look at the cost and size of a 20gb ipod against a MD with 20gb of storage i think the ipod costs a less and is much more portable.. I dont like copy protection but companies might as well just give every thing away for free if they didnt use it. Just my monday morning moan. Dave

I recorded my band the other night with my 900 and for the first time used AGC with mic set on low as i couldnt be bothered with setting the levels and was very suprised at the quality. the mic was a stereo sony and was placed just off from in front of my bass amp facing into the stage. i wasnt expecting much as my old MZ-N1 would have distored badly. going to the RAH next week so will try it out there Dave.

SS2.2 crashes all the time when converting files. was ok
dave_bass5 replied to dave_bass5's topic in Minidisc
Yeah, it was my fault the re install went wrong, i was getting frustrated and forgot my install disc was at home. One more thing though, since upgrading to 2.2 on both my home and work pc's the default conversion settings had defaulted to atrac3 64k. didnt notice till today. Pain in the ass. Dave. Dave. -

hmmmm. fixed it. when it crashes it reports an error message about ac3filter so i uninstalled that and it worked. god knows why it even went near it (and its been installed for weeks without any problems) dave. -

Yes. i tried to re-intall SS2.2 but still no joy so deleted SS and then ran SS2.2 (forgetting it was only the update) now im getting a loop of istall, cant find disc, cancel insatll, install starts again, etc. just trying to clear it all off my pc Seems the problem is the omg(a) converter. Dave. -

Hi-Md is good but not reliable once SS is in the chain. i use my 900 more as a portable storage device and for that its fantastic Dave -
Was working, now not. piece of crap Shame sony had a hand in the software Dave. ps well done Marc

I have got 6.5 hours rec time from mine and 2 days worth of play back before the battery went dead, although i couldnt edit any of it. Dave.
-
On the 900 if you have quick start enabled stoping and starting is very quick anyway. i have never used the pause button except for setting the rec level. Dave.
