I'll give it a try. Looks like just the kind of thing I'm needing.

I'm a novice and could use some help with transferring recorded music from my MD (Sony MDLP, Model MZ-R700) up to my PC (running Windows XP Professional). I know that I need to do an analog copy. I have a 1/8 inch x 1/8 inch stereo cable to connect from my headphone jack on the MD to the microphone jack on the PC. My understanding is that I now need to find recording s/w on the PC side so that, once I'm connected, I can do the transfer by hitting play on the MD and record on the PC software. What I need now is some info on what recording s/w is available for this (freeware would be nice but am also willing to pay) and any tips for making it go smoothly. I'd also appreciate feedback on whether the approach I'm taking is the right/best one. Apologies in advance if this information is posted elsewhere in the forum. I just couldn't find it if it was. Thanx!
